I think they just do a Low cost one - 10$. At the fairgrounds 2nd monday of the month I think - something like that.

SMAWL Low Cost Rabies Vaccination Clinics
It is a St. Mary's County regulation that all dogs and cats over four months of age be vaccinated for rabies. It only takes one evening a year to keep your pets safe and to help control rabies in our area.

Rabies Clinics are held the second Monday of most months at: The St. Mary's County Fairgrounds
Typically in the 4-H building or Pavilion (weather permitting)
42455 Fairgrounds Road
Leonardtown, MD 20650

Time: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

$10.00 each - CASH or CHECK ONLY

2010 Rabies Vaccination Clinic Schedule

May 10
June 14
July 12
August 9
September 13
October 11
November 8

To receive a three-year vaccination, you must present a current rabies certificate (not tags).

Good question~ sorry I don't know how to answer it. My guess would be that they would not turn you away if you didn't live in Calvert. If their goal is to make sure all animals have rabies vaccinations, it wouldn't be right to draw the line at each county.

It would be nice if there were more microchipping clinics.
A lot of people don't give it a thought until after their pet is missing, though

Some people also think it is a tracking device...

AVID registers the chips to the person who purchased them, Home Again does NOT, that's why i chose AVID chips. If it's a responsible breeder he/she will have a record of who has what chip. I keep that info in my files so if AVID contacts me, I contact the person i sold the pup too.
Some canine registries now allow you to put microchip info right into the dog's registration information too.

You can buy individual chips and implant them yourself.
Avid Microchip, FriendChips, Sterile 5 Pack for pets at DogCatetc.com

Way better than the days owners used to tattoo their high value dogs with their SSNs  I must be getting old to remember that.

Don't say that I remember it too. Then the change to AKC Reg # of the dog....etc....

The AKC CAR chip works like AVID and will come back to you if it isn't regisitered. AVID will not reassure its customers that it isn't selling contact info to HSUS or PETA so I will not use them. I get enough junk mail. I purchase pre-paid reg chips and all dogs are reg when they are implanted to me, if the owner wants to change it they can, but I ask to always be the back up. On Rescues they are reg to the new owner and the Rescue is back up.

I didn't know that. That's who my dog is chipped through. Who does it register to through Home Again? I get renewal paperwork each year from Home Again.

Home Again offers more to their services. I don't need them, so I decided to choose between AVID and AKC CAR. I choose AKC CAR because my dogs are all AKC and AVID would not answer my letters or calls on the selling sharing or giving of information. You can register any chip with AKC and the best look up site I have found is Pet Microchip Lookup - Powered by AAHA this will tell you where the chip is regisitered. Several of the companies have joined in this effort to help insure pets are returned no matter what. AVID hasn't joined, Home Again, AKC CAR, Pet Link, ResQ, EidAP and others have. We have a discount plan with AKC for the Rescues and the people get discounts on the reg of the chip no matter what chip is used.

I didn't realize HomeAgain required annual renewal, that stinks. AVID registration is for a lifetime.

I've been chipping with AVID for about 14 years and have always purchased from Revival Animal company. I have never had anyone contact me from info provided to the company.

Yknotpoms AVID the mfg. doesn't sell to the individual consumer they sell in bulk to pet supply companies, so it would be the individual reseller who would answer any questions about selling your info. That's prolly why you never received an answer to your inquiries. Revival doesn't sell their client info.

FYI the AKC sells your contact info for breed specific marketing purposes to anyone who asks. I get tons of breed specific junk mail for every AKC registered breed i have ever owned. Credit cards are the worst, then christmas card and check printing companies a close second.

Ok, mine is registered with AKC too so I guess that means that if she ever gets lost and then scanned, it will come back to me as the owner. I will check out the site to double-check where her chip is registered.

She may just be reg with AKC as a pure bred with the AKC reg number not the microchip. I know CONFUSING.

I have home again and this is how it works. animal control or whomever picks up your animal will scan it. Rhey will scan the dog and call the microchip company with the number and microchip company in turn calls you and if you don't answer they call the vets office that is on file (if i am remembering straight).

bruno has never gotten away so we haven't had to test it yet thankgoodness.

I like the homeagain as you can put a picture of your dog on there and people can see what it looks like so if they happen to see it running around in there yard they can call the microchip company and say i have bruno. and they will call us and let us know who has the dog so we can go and get her back (that is if someone picks her up that has the homeagain network for there dog and sees her pic if not animal control i bet will be called and they will then take her to be scanned).

I love Revival as well. Maybe all the stuff I was reading and the letters come from AVID were all fake. It all looked good, but at a min you would think AVID would at least say what you did. To clear themselves a little.

Yes, I know about the breed stuff from AKC.....I get it anyways because my furries are reg with them, so I figured at least I wouldn't be getting more from other places, I hope. So far AKC only seems to have linked me with Danbury Mint and I like that stuff so I will just cross my fingers. Maybe I don't get a lot because Pomeranians are not top of the list who knows. Hope I haven't jinx'd myself now. :otter:
