Calvert Recorder/Independent online?

As a Calvert County native now living in Florida and quite obviously out of the circulation area of either the Calvert Independent or the Calvert Recorder, I would like to know if anyone has heard of any plans to put either paper online. So many papers--even ones from small towns--have online editions, and it's rather frustrating that neither of my hometown papers has such a service.

Unfortunately, while the local Barnes and Nobles has editions of the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post on its newspaper shelves, I haven't seemed to find the space for the Independent or the Recorder. :)

Seriously though, I'd like to keep up with the goings-ons back home and at least one of the papers should invest in an online service for people who no longer live in Calvert County.

The only local link I know of is the rag mag. The company that owns the paper/ recorder has online access but I believe you can only view classifieds.

I've heard that the papers are finally coming online in the near future, but I'm still skeptical. I don't understand why that hasn't happened before. The same company owns the Gazette chain in the D.C. area and those papers have been online for years, so it's not like the company's Web gurus would have to start from scratch.

As for the Calvert Independent going online, I don't see that ever happening. Although it's owned by the Washington Times, it doesn't seem to make any money.

The Recorder is getting out of control with advertisements. Two pages of local news and 2 lbs. of spam. I,for one, would welcome an online edition.

You can have the recorder & the Independent mailed to you as a subscription. My sister in law lives in Fla. & i think she receives both papers.
