Calvert scanner is sick....

Due to the lightning storm, it's offline. Our router fried, so basic Internet is hosed... And once that is fixed I have to look at the scanner itself too... May be fried or it may just need reprogramming. It happened while I was at Oshkosh, just got back last night. It may be a few days, I am working on it as work and time allows!

Got the Internet up, the Cisco wifi router was *fried*. Bricked. Radio is also non-functioning. May be bad antenna, but probably toasted RF front end. Found several breakers tripped. Printer won't power up. I am into this for $200 in replacement gear so far and it still is not up.

This is fun.

Replacement scanner radio is on order, Won't get here until next week though. Maybe Weds or Thrsday, then I have to program it. It's more or less a "do-over" of the whole setup. I will let you guys know when I *think* it is working, but it's gonna be a week or so, sorry!

Yaaaa! Replacement scanner arrived! I will be working on getting it online late this afternoon, after I get some sleep (worked a night shift, just getting off work now.....)

Ps: definitely a lightning strike ... Directv replaced DVR, burn marks on the cable from the dish, lnb fried, plus burn marks on rj-45 connectors on wifi router and patch bay, fried Ethernet switches, dead printer, phone system dead... Ouch. Still working on getting electronics fixed / replaced.....

Replacement scanner just got finished programming it. Who knew a Bearcat BCT-15 and a Bearcat BCT-15XT are totally different radios? Old software would not t.alk to it. Still not quite online, still have to install the server software and get that configured. should be back to normal by tomorrow evening.

Thanks for everyone's patience while I work through this recovery process!

*Maybe* it's fixed. I expect i will still have to fiddle with it more so it probably won't be that stable for a day or two. I am using a different feed computer and different feed software, we'll see how this works out.

It ran overnight OK! Let me know how the audio levels sound--- too soft? Too loud> clipped / distorted? I am running the feed at 16 kb/sec stream rate and digitizing the audio at .... hmmm, using "auto" so whatever the encoder software picked. I might try a lower stream rate later today and see how it sounds.

This is important to you how? A lower stream rate will mean less data is used up on your 3G plan if you listen on your mobile smart phone. It's a trade off though, as it does mean slightly lower audio quality.
