Calvert vs. St. Mary's for baby delivery

Any deciding factors to consider here? I know neither has a NICU. Deciding between two docs one delivers out of Calvert only; wondering if I should consider that factor.

Both of mine were at delivered at Calvert, and everything was great.

They do a patient walk through that you could sign up for to see what they have, and that may help you decide. It was very informative. They have a video and data link with a NICU (Children's?) that allows the specialists to see everything real time. It's as close to having a NICU as you can get without actually having one.

St. Mary's was good with my first one in 2003, the only bad thing is I had to share a room but they have redone that since then and with my second one in 2004 it was horrible. I had my own room but the staff was awful.

They do a birth center tour the 3rd Sunday every month. It's at 2:00 and it's free.

Both of my kids were delivered at St Mary's April 05 and Nov 06 . I had one problem with one of the nurse's with my last but that was it .

I am so very blessed
I had an awesome delivery experience at St. Mary's in Jan '06. Everything was great...the doctors....the nurses.....the attendants. Everything was top notch. :yay:

I have delivered twice at Calvert and loved it. Also, neither have a NICU but Calvert is closer if there are complications and you need to drive/fly to Childrens or Hopkins NICU. Dr. Lukban, in Dr. Silpa's office I believe is the only neonatal pediatrician in the area. She is wonderful and will come right to Calvert and examine the baby and answer any questions you have.

The new maternity ward at Calvert is very nice with safety features and large private rooms. They even had a private masseuse come around and give the new mommies free massages after their delivery to relax them and deal with any pains they were having. Gotta love free massages especially when your body has just gone through a child birth!

Whatever hospital you choose I wish you and your baby and stress free delivery and a happy healthy start to your new life together.

I had Sabroco for my doctor when I had my last in '04. Calvert is fine.
You should choose based on the doctor, both hosp. seem great for labor and delivery.

I just delivered a baby last week at SMH, it was my third delivery there and all three times have been wonderful experiences.

Had the first child in '92 at St. Mary's, was the worst experience of my life and I swore I would never have another child there. I had my last 2 in Calvert Hospital and everything went smooth! I have absolutely no complaints about Calvert. I am still of the opinion that I would rather go to Calvert for any medical reason than St. Mary's. That place gives me the heebie jeebies! :shocking:

Thanks everyone for your insight. I agree, it may be based on doc and I believe I finally have that figured out. Appreciate everyone's input!

My doctor was great at St. Mary's but it was the nurses that you are stuck with. Someone said they have made lots of changes though. Good luck where ever you decide.

I delivered in March at SMH and overall it was great. I even hurled on a nurse and she still smiled at me and stood right there while my lil boy was delivered.
