Camel Crickets

I hate these critters and instead of chasing them around and leaving a mess when I try to stomp them...any indoor pesticides you would recommend?

How about a home-made concoction in a spray bottle?

Found 10 of 'em in my Kayak when I loaded it up last week. I hate these pests.

What works?

I've always called those things "Hoppin'Johns" :lol: I never knew their real name until you mentioned it. Any household (ant, spider, roach) bug spray would probably work.

Elimination

Control efforts for camel crickets should include one or more of the below measures.

* Cultural:

1. Eliminating suitable breeding and hiding sites outdoors around the house or building. Piles of bricks, stones, boards, leaves, etc., should be removed.
2. Change outdoor lighting to yellow or sodium vapor bulbs

* Mechanical/Physical

1. Individual crickets can be easily picked up and discarded.
2. Hit insect with fly swatter or crush with shoe.
3. Sweeping with Vacuum cleaner
4. Glue boards, or other sticky traps. ie: Fly paper, upturned strips of duct tape do a very good job of catching the insects for disposal. Shoe boxes with sideholes and inside pasted with depilation wax.
5. Seal or screen entry points: Cracks and gaps in foundation of building or siding or around windows and doors should be sealed.

* Chemical

1. If there is a breeding population and chemical control is desired, spraying a residual barrier of diazinon, Dursban or Sevin insecticide around the outside of the house may be of benefit if you apply sufficient spray to reach breeding sites. It should be repeated monthly or bimonthly.
2. Spraying household "with ant and cockroach" insecticide onto indoor floor areas where camel crickets hide or are seen is a last resort of limited benefit.
3. Insecticied granules.

* Biological:

1. Predator and parasitic insects. House centipedes are a natural predatory form of control, but most homeowners are uncomfortable having them around, despite their beneficial nature. [citation needed]

Please no one make fun of me, okay? What are camel crickets? Is this something different than the average cricket? I've got these things in my place that resemble a cricket but they are brown, have a round body, huge back legs, long antennas and can jump at least 3 1/2 feet or more in one leap. What the h*ll are these things? I've lived in the sticks all my life and have never seen these things before.

Look at the two posting Sharon inserted...

Yes,...those are the camel crickets.
And according to the info...I have a minor infestation.

Look at them pretty close, then imagine you are fighting them like
"Starship Troopers."

:lmao: :lmao: That is funny right there. Or maybe they mean DEAD ones. :lmao:

I hate them! They are just freaky or something. At my folks place the garage ceiling is only about 6' 5" and there are usually many of them hanging from the ceiling. Not fun! I did spray the corners and edges once with bug spray, killed lots of them, and they didn't come back to the sprayed areas for quite a while.

I get em in my garage. I take duct tape (yes, the cure for everything) and peel off a long piece and lay it down sticky side up and the next morning it is totally full of em. Most dead. I hear they reproduce quickly so when I get a bunch of em I don't have to do it for a couple weeks. :lmao:

But wait, there's more...
So that's what those little bastards are. I knew it was a cricket, but didn't know it was worthy of its own specialization in name. :lol:

I get them in the house ... not sure why or where they come in, but they annoy the hell outta me.
