camera lens

So I have a digital Rebel EOS XT and I'm thinking I wouls like a lens to take closer pictures. I take it all the time in the kayak. Since I don't know a whole lot about cameras does anyone have any suggestions? I want to take pictures of the birds and wildlife.

There are a few more thing people will need to know to help you make a better guess at what lens might fit your needs.

1 What is your price range?
2 What kind of lighting conditions? Are you taking pictures during the day or more evening pictures?
3 What lens are you using now?

The thing with zoom lenses is, you never have enough zoom it seems. With birds you pretty much would need to get close enough to fill most of the frame as you look threw the camera.
