Campbells Tomato Soup

And reserve the "I make my own" for later...

I remember the taste of Campbells Tomato soup from growing up, and it was always good. Past few years it just hasn't tasted the same. I was wondering if my tastes changed, did they change the recipe? So I hadn't been using it as much, even for recipes, tasted a bit bitter to me, made my recipes strange.

So tonight I took the challenge. Asked myself what Campbells would have changed... probably salt, and sugar. Did the normal one can soup to one can milk.... has to be 'cream of'. Added some sugar. Better. More sugar. Close. A bit of salt.

It now tastes just like I remember. I'm all for making processed foods more healthy, but there's something to be said for some of things that were made years ago.

I miss McDonald's french fries and deep fried pies.

Chef Boyardee (sp?) ravioli does not taste the same.

It could be me or the ingredients.

The fries def changed. They changed the fry oil years ago. They used to be good, but because some people couldn't control themselves and eat stuff like this in moderation, a few changed the quality for all.

I feel like cereal has changed a lot. I used to really love Peanut Butter Crunch when I was little. I bought some last year and it didn't taste the way I remembered. Same for Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. Not sure about Honey Nut Cheerios because I've never gone a big chunk of time without having them.

I love love love Campbell's CoT soup. Amy's Tomato Bisque actually tastes better, but there's something about Campbell's that is legendary. With a grilled cheese sandwich, please.

I've eaten it regularly since I was a child and never noticed any taste change. Mrs. Grass chicken noodle is noticeably less salty and flavorful, though. I add chicken stock paste to boost it back up to pre- Food Nazi levels.

Watching the worker through the window at McDonald's was great fun as a child. I remember seeing the potatoes being scrubbed/washed by workers, then peeled, cut to shoestrings by a machine and cooked in real grease. yum yum... The best ones were the ones that had a little skin left on them. *sigh*

Frosted Flakes taste the same.

I never was a fan of Peanut Butter Crunch but now I have to get a box of Captain Crunch. Good old stick in your teeth warfare.

It's a 'condensed' soup so I bet your bippy that it is less condensed these days as a way to cut cost... you think you are getting the same amount of soup but you aren't.

I am so very blessed
I like cream of tomato soup, but find that it is sooooo sweet. I don't recall that the sweetness was so prevalent when I was younger, but maybe it was. I just know that if I eat more than just a little bit, it makes my stomach hurt.
