I did something to my laptop and I'm not sure what I did, then panic set in to quickly fix it and I did more things to it I shouldn't have. :jameo: I think I changed the setting where you make your screen dimmer to save on the battery. How do I undo this? Also its not recognzing power cord and running on battery in this dim mode. I'm down to 10% battery life left trying to figure this out :jameo:

what model is it ?

Toshiba's have their own "Power Setting" app it usually sits in the System Tray ... open it up and switch it to full power ....

otherwise you can check the control panels ... for power options ... might help ya

I tried all that and played around in there as well. Its a sony vios... next question... as I have 3% battery left...where's a good place to take it up this way to get it fixed? Whatever it is? Somewhere in Clinton or Waldorf?

Take it to a Staples store, or Circuit City; the should have technicians on hand that may be able to diagnose the problem.

NOT Best Buy!

I just learned something new:

I have an HP laptop - model# DV9810US. It has 3gigs of RAM installed as purchased, (has an AMD 2.0gig, 64 bit CPU in it as well), with the ability to accomodate up to 4 gigs. Weds., I was browsing computer products at Staples, on Rte 235, and noticed a 2gig RAM chip on sale for $79.99, so , heck, I went for it. I figured if I wanted to add new software, I would need the extra RAM, on board.

It was the right chip for my machine - DDR2, 667mhz, 200 pin connection.

I installed it, very easily, in about 15 minutes. Re-installed the battery, plugged in the power cord, and turned it on. I went to System Information, and found that while it did recognize the RAM addition - to 4gigs - but it was only utilising 3gigs!

WTF!!

Seems(after talking to an HP techie) that my Vista Home Premium software package - 32bit system, will only recognize somewhere around 3.25gigs of the RAM I that I had just newly installed. I would have to upgrade to a Vista 64 bit software program, for my laptop to fully utilise the entire 4gigs of RAM!

Yeah, I'm going to run right back out there, and purchase a new Vista software program, in the 64 bit version!

Not today!

Glad to hear you're back to normal operations! Every once in a while, I unplug the power cord on my laptop, so the battery memory can be refreshed.
Otherwise, it won't last long,(the battery) if I operate the laptop on just battery power alone.

Real quick Dems - usually on Laptops there are keys which have a blue secondary symbol. Holding down the CNTRL or OPTION key (should be a corresponding blue color) while pressing another blue lettered key will do an additional function...

On Dell's, holding down the CNTRL Key (blue lettering) while pressing the UP Arrow Key (blue symbol of a starburst thingy) will brighten the screen. Holding the CNTRL Key while pressing the DOWN Arrow Key does the inverse, dim the screen.

Hope it helps. :howdy:

Most laptops I've seen have a blue FCN (or similar spelling) for Function. You use that key with the blue icon keys to make magic. Everything else CLeValley said is the same.

   I was sitting in front of my workstation and typed what I saw in the place of the Function key. :killingme
