Jordan Peterson Ordered to Undergo Re-Education, Pay $25K Fine by Canadian Court

In a court case that has wide implications for anyone here who cares about the First Amendment, clinical psychologist and author Jordan Peterson has been ordered by a Canadian court to undergo re-education.

In a decision released Wednesday, three Ontario Divisional Court judges unanimously sided with the College of Psychologists of Ontario in a case stemming from some of Peterson's contentious language and online statements.
Justice Paul Schabas wrote that the college's order that Peterson undergo a program on professionalism in public statements balanced its mandate to regulate the profession, "is not disciplinary and does not prevent Dr. Peterson from expressing himself on controversial topics."
Peterson had said his statements were not made in his capacity as a clinical psychologist, but instead were "off-duty opinions" – an argument the court rejected.

Here's a relevant quote from Jordan Peterson: “When you have something to say, silence is a lie.” Note the second clause in the next sentence:

The prescribed coaching would focus on Peterson's "unprofessional language" and would not prevent him from expressing himself on issues he or his audience care about, the judge wrote.
Citing a clear and transparent review process from the college, previous warnings it had made to Peterson about his language and his "unwillingness to acknowledge the (complaints committee's) concerns," Schabas dismissed the judicial review application and ordered Peterson to pay the college $25,000.

This punishment, not only the re-education but also the fine, is intended precisely to stop Jordan Peterson from expressing himself when he has something to say. There's simply no other reason for this to happen. That was the intent of this case, and that was the intent of the Court.

While this ruling comes from a Canadian court, in a Canadian case, there's no reason to think it can't happen here. The political Left in the United States has been pushing for laws, court rulings, and regulations around free speech for some time now. Recently, my colleague Jeff Charles made some excellent points on exactly this possibility:

When they have enough support for these (hate speech) measures, they could start with civil liability. If someone says something like “men are men and women are women,” perhaps a transgender individual who was in earshot could file a lawsuit against the supposed offender. In this way, the woke crowd could essentially punish people for speech by using the court system to extort them for their hard-earned cash. Later, when Matsuda and Delgado’s ilk manage to convince people that these words actually constitute a form of violence, they might be able to push for criminal laws, which would create situations in the United States similar to what we saw in the United Kingdom.
The argument would be that using state force to punish people for problematic speech can deter behavior that is harmful to society. They would claim it would decrease violence against racial minorities and members of the LGBTQ community. Of course, this would be a lie, but that doesn’t matter, does it?

We see the example a Canadian court has set. We see the openly expressed wishes of the American leftists to have similar cases here. This is a pretext that should be absolutely horrifying to anyone who understands and believes in the concept of free speech.

Jordan Peterson Unloads On Canadian Court After It Backs Psychologist Org Attempting To Censor Him

The organization is not punishing Peterson for any interactions with patients; rather it is censuring, fining, and attempting to “reeducate” him for public comments he made, including on social media and during podcast appearances.

Peterson responded by blasting the court and vowing to make “every aspect” of the case public.

“So the Ontario Court of Appeal ruled that [the College of Psychologists of Ontario] can pursue their prosecution,” Peterson wrote. “If you think that you have a right to free speech in Canada, You’re delusional. I will make every aspect of this public. And we will see what happens when utter transparency is the rule. Bring it on.”

Some of Peterson’s supposed offenses, according to the College of Psychologists, include retweeting Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre’s criticism of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, criticizing a former senior Trudeau aide, and expressing opposition to the idea of the Ottawa police taking custody of the children of Trucker Convoy protesters.

Canada's foreign affairs minister Melanie Joly says she's keeping an eye on US in case it becomes 'authoritarian regime' after 2024 election

  • A Canadian lawmaker tipped as next prime minister has revealed 'game plan'
  • Mélanie Joly says Canada is watching to see if the US becomes a far-right regime
  • The Foreign Affairs Minister says she and colleagues want to be 'ready'

A Canadian lawmaker has revealed a 'game-plan' is being devised on how to respond if the US becomes a far-right, authoritarian regime, following the presidential election.

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Canada is keeping a close eye on who is going to be America's next leader, the National Post reports.

'We are certainly working on scenarios,' Joly told a Montreal radio station in French during an interview this week.

'I will work with my colleagues and with the mayors, the provincial premiers, with the business community, with the unions, with everyone in the country, so that we are ready regardless of the election outcome.'

She is believed to be alluding to the possible re-election of former President Donald Trump, who will likely be the Republican nominee and face off against Joe Biden in a tight race.

During the same discussion, she said the issue of how Canada prevents the growth of the far-right is being looked at more widely.

'The other aspect of the question is more about knowing how we as a democracy are able to thwart the growth of the far-right in our country, because it’s happening in the United States, it’s happening in Europe,' she said.

Joly added: 'So one can’t be naïve here, Patrick; it’s happening right now with us, there is, we know that there is certainly a radicalization of the [Canadian] Conservative Party.'

They refused the democrats trying to leave when Trump was elected. They can do it again.

We published a post earlier today about people trying to blame Gov. Ron DeSantis' "anti-woke" rhetoric for the shooting of three African Americans in Jacksonville by an admitted racist. President Biden has once again declared that white supremacy is the country's largest terrorist threat, and the NAACP meant business when it issued its travel warning. DeSantis deciding not to use the College Board's African American Studies class and instead, the state's own curriculum inspired this loser to open fire on innocent people.

We've already had one group declare an LGBTQ travel advisory for Florida. But we've never had an entire country issue one over "laws and policies that may affect 2SLGBTQI+ persons." Yeah, don't do anything sexually explicit in front of kids and you'll be good.

(2S stands for two-spirit, a belief of Canada's indigenous people and thus getting top billing.)

What does 'identity as a settler colonial state' even mean?

Well, read more here:

A Discussion Paper on Religious Intolerance just out from the Canadian Human Rights Commission claims that Christianity in practice in Canada is essentially a form of discrimination. "Only through better understanding of how religious intolerance takes place in Canada can our legislation, policies and programs be crafted to address the causes and consequences of this intolerance," the paper reads.

The commission claims that "Discrimination against religious minorities in Canada is grounded in Canada’s history of colonialism." In the discussion, however, the practicing of the religion itself is conflated with discrimination against other religions. In fact, the paper reads, while religion can be grounds for discrimination, "religion is not defined in the Canadian Human Rights Act."

So, a bunch of leftwing gobbledygook, masquerading as deep thinking in order to discriminate against Christians. That's what it boils down to.

Viral Video Shows Canadian Police RAILROADING a Journalist Who's Asking Questions They Don't Like

There's a whole cottage industry on the left of people writing books and articles warning of the impending danger of fascism overtaking America. Accompanying these jeremiads there's often a list of all of the things that, they claim, are guaranteed to accompany the rise of fascism within a state, things like 'rise of a charismatic leader' and 'dissemination of misinformation'... but somehow when these lists are put together the ever present threat posed by goon squads looking to create reasons to arrest people who run afoul of The State in some way is somehow never on the list.

Turning to our cousins in the Great White North for a moment we can see this type of goon squad action in all of its loathsome glory taking place during an interaction between Rebel News's David Manzies and an apparent member of the police force sent to 'protect' Canadian Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland. Watch the whole video:

Canada considers house arrest for people at risk of committing hate crimes

Justin Trudeau’s government has proposed a law giving judges the power to put someone under house arrest if they fear they could commit a hate crime.

Critics have warned the “draconian” bill is an overreach of power and could stifle free speech and difficult discussions.

But Canada’s justice minister defended the measure, claiming it would be an “important” tool to help protect potential victims.

An online harms bill introduced by the Liberals last week proposed a string of laws to protect children and prosecute hate crimes.

One of the suggested measures would give judges the ability to put people under house arrest who they worry could commit a hate crime in the future. The person could also be made to wear an electronic tag if the attorney-general requested it.

Arif Virani, the justice minister, said the measures could prove “very important” in restraining the behaviour of someone who might be targeting minority groups.

WE WARNED YOU! Jacobin Mag Shocked Canada's MAID Program Replacing Social Welfare With Euthanasia

This writer has written about Canada's MAID program for a little while, each time warning people that this program would be abused by the government, applied as a cost-saving measure against the poor, the elderly, and the infirm. As the numbers of MAID 'patients' (victims would be a better word) rise, at least one Canadian PM praises it as 'enhanced freedom'. Even Orwell shudders.

Jacobin Magazine -- not exactly a bastion of right-wing thought -- has noticed now, too.

They write:

For want of a mattress, a man is dead. That’s the story, in sum, of a quadriplegic man who chose to end his life in January through medically assisted death. Normand Meunier’s story, as reported by the CBC, began with a visit to a Quebec hospital due to a respiratory virus. Meunier subsequently developed a painful bedsore after being left without access to a mattress to accommodate his needs. Thereafter, he applied to Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) program.
As Rachel Watts writes in her report, Meunier spent ninety-five hours on a stretcher in the emergency room — just hours short of four days. The bedsore he developed “eventually worsened to the point where bone and muscle were exposed and visible — making his recovery and prognosis bleak.” The man who “didn’t want to be a burden” chose to die at home. An internal investigation into the matter is underway.

An absolute travesty.

But completely expected.
