i have a 2005 ford taurus and my accelerator got stuck today very scarey moment i was able to get it stopped but it was rev to the 3 and i turned off the car anyway i took it where my nephew works and he said it was the throttle cable wire broken is this an easy fix or should i take it to the dealer ?my husband knows a little about cars but not to much on the newer models and it does have cruise control i dont want to take it to the dealer and have to pay a 100 deductible and then them possibly keeping my car for a week

If it's a 2005, not under warranty, don't take it to a dealer, take it to a reputable repair shop. I'm sure it's cheaper that way. I'd offer a suggestion, but I do all my own work, haven't used a shop in a long time.

If it's not drivable, expect a towing charge.

Standard warranty on a 2005:
Basic: 3 yr. / 36,000 mi.
Drivetrain: 3 yr. / 36,000 mi.
Roadside: 3 yr. / 36,000 mi.
Rust: 5 yr. / Unlimited mi.

hummm, throttle cable broken? If it was broke, I would assume the engine would not go above idle... I know I found that the throttlebody plate gets carbon build up and will cause that problem because it will stick open. If you can, pull the plastic/rubber intake hose off and look in the throttlebody, if it's cruddy looking, spray some throttlebody cleaner in there while the car is running. You can actuate the throttle by grabbing the linkage on the side of it or just have someone on the gas peddle...
