Car broken into last night in Golden Beach area

If you live in the Patuxent Knolls/Golden beach area, check to see if your car was rummage through last night.

I rarely forget to lock my car but last night was one of those times. I went to leave earlier today and saw items scattered everywhere.

They only took the vehicle registration and the latest insurance card. They left the garmin gps, playstation 2, cds, and tools in trunk.

Why would they want that and not the stuff they can sell for drugs? I don't really understand the criminal mind.

Anyway, I'm sorry that happened to you. It's a terrible feeling to start your day by finding that someone has violated your space and stolen your things.

You got lucky. But why leave valuables like that for the taking? Thats like leaving cat food out on the porch and then complaining a raccoon or Opossum is on your porch. Time and time again all the local police departments put out press releases advising not to leave valuables in the car. Apparently you didn't get or heed to the memos.

Could have been scared off, or just could be looking for stuff for identity theft.

OP, I’d put a credit lock on your file at the Big 3 agencies. Should be free of charge.

People have a right to keep things in their car without the local talent helping themselves to it. Blaming the victim is poor form.
Sure they do, but unfortunately its the world we live where crap like this happens. Don't make it easy for the crap bags. Don't leave valuables in an un locked car. The days of not locking your doors are long gone.

True. "Lock your car, take your keys" is still good advice.

Back in the late 70s, I lived in an apt with 2 other guys. One of the guys bought a new Z28 Camaro and the first week he had it, someone rummaged through all his stuff in the car, but took nothing. 2 days later, the car was stolen and never seen again. Police said the 1st break-in was to get the key codes for his car. Once they had the codes, they had keys made and took the car.
