Car off the road on NB Rt 4

Did anyone hear anything about the car that was off the road this morning around 5:15 on the northbound side of rt 4 just before the Upper Pindell Rd cross-over and 258 exit? It looked like a white SUV laying on its side off the right side of the road in the brush. I called 911 and they said a call was already in.

Just hoping everyone was okay being how cold it was and it looked bad; and how it happened. This stretch of road has become notorious for accidents.

Nope, not here. I even turned on WTOP to see if LB had any gouge on it, but that might have been too soon after it happened. Fortunately was able to turn left on Lower Pindell, that was right about where the back-up began when I was driving through. There was a fire truck there as I passed it, too.

Bus dispatcher reported the accident as "just past 260." We sat in the "tunnel" for about 20 minutes..never moved. Never saw the accident either, so they must have moved the car/van before we got there. Cars trying to get onto 4 from the left were stuck. There was a small fire of some sort on the side of the road though.

So, it sounds like the car caught fire. It looked like it was about 20 feet off the road, laying on its side. There was no fire when I went by. That stretch stinks; there is no shoulder to pull off so no one could safely stop and help. I was really feeling bad for not being able to stop and help. That stretch of road needs to be changed with shoulders and pull-offs. Too many accidents happen in this area.

I think that was a second one (I'd passed already before that one happened, but not my coworkers), the first one was just past Lower Pindell Rd.

And there was ANOTHER one on the way home just around Upper Pindell Rd. Two white trucks, looked liked they collided head on (not terrible damage, though...didn't look bad), but it backed up Rt 4 at least a mile north of Deale.

Nice of you to stop and make sure everyone was alright! :sarcasm:

At 6:15 Rt. 4 was backed up past Old Crain Hwy.

Amazing if that accident took that long to get traffic back into a normal flow. When I passed it (around 4:45 pm), the tow trucks were there and almost had them out of there.

I think that this backup (past Old Crain Hwy) was due to an accident at the on-ramp right before the Patuxent Bridge heading south-bound. That's where I get on coming home from work and yesterday at about 6:00 PM when I got there, there were several vehicles (including a white smallish pick-up with a smashed in tailgate) and a police cae off on the berm on the right. I didn't have time to notice anything else as I was foused on safely merging into the very slow traffic. Traffic broke up after that point so the slow-down was mostly looky-loos.
