Is it common knowledge that car seats have expiration dates?

I was just curious because I was looking through the classified section and someone is trying to sell two Britax car seats from 2003 & 2004 for $90 each. That just seems like A LOT of money to charge for a used car seat that will only be getting a year to a year and a half of use.

Are you looking for a Britax carseat? I have one that is in perfect condition, only used as a second seat rarely. I paid over $200 for it.

No, I have them. I was actually looking for a children's headboard. Just happened to notice the ad.

Ya i agree. I was reading my car seat for my daughter and it said that i can't turn her around till she is 36 pounds. I hope that is a miss print. I turn my son around at 1 because he was so tall. I am so confused and they have a new law out. I haven't seen it yet but my friend told that they have to stay rear facing till they are two. I don't think she's right.

No, the recomendation for FF is one year AND 20 lbs. 36lbs is probably the max RF weight for your carseat.
RF is more safe for as long as possible but I turned my son right at one because he hated RFing. Daughter was fine RFing until about 19 months.

I called Britax when my German Shepard chewed the back stap on our carseat to order a new strap. They told me my carseat was too old(5 years old). I told him my carseat was otherwise in perfect shape. Britax also told me that seat belts in our cars need to be replaced every 5 years! Volvo told me that was crap and I took my carseat to an auto place and they repaired my car seat strap.
