Car sick dog.

Does anyone know if there is anything you can give a dog to help with car sickness? Every time we put the dog in the car he pukes after about 15 min. We do alot of camping and want to take the dog with us but if he keeps getting sick I don't know what I am going to do.

Try sitting him in the running vehicle for a few minutes each weekend. This should help get him used to the sounds/vibration of the vehicle.

My dog use to get terribly car sick. Withhold food the morning you leave and use Dramamine, it's dog safe.

I have used benedryl on my dogs. I usually give it about an hour before we leave. We camp also, so I know what you are dealing with. I have one that gets very anxious and pants constantly unless I give him his benedryl.

I wish my parents would have done something to prevent it with our cocker spaniel growing up. We always took him on vacations with us and then spent the beginning of the trip shoving ourselves in the corner whenever he'd turn our way for fear of getting puked on.

I was anxious to see how our Malamute did in the car but luckily, she's just a drooler. I had to wrap my youngest in towels when he rode in the backseat with her. Now she's too big (119 lbs) for him to go with us to the vet so I just lay down towels on the backseat.

Jack gets car sick also. We discovered that if we brought his cage and put him in there he was way more relaxed but if we bring an extra kid we do not have room for the cage so we take the blanket out of the cage and put it on the floor board and cage in the bed. That works too!

the day after we got our dog we took her for a nice long car ride and she loved it. She never had any issues with it at all. She loves going bye bye

I'm happy for you. Your comment brought nothing to the table except a waste of time spent reading it. Perhaps you could be helpful next time?

I too have been told by a vet to give dogs dramamine if they get car sick.

Luckily the only dog we ever had that got car sick only did it 1 time. We were on the old surface road that parallels 81 heading to Alabama back in the mid/late 70's, in an AMC Hornet station wagon. We (kids) gave the dog some ice cream and then my father proceeded to haul azz up and down hills and around turns until the dog puked. After cleaning the mess, he finally got back on the interstate. Or so the story goes. I don't actually remember this.

Dog treats with ginger in them may help as well as Bach's Rescue Remedy.

My little redhead used to get sick too, but if I hold her up so she can see out the window she's fine. If she's down on the seat, she'll get sick every time.

We tried Dramimine on Pepper and it didn't work. The vet also suggested Benedryl but that didn't work~ I guess they thought it would knock her out.

...I wish I had known about Rescue Remedy...because a lot of people swear by it.
