Carpel Tunnel?

I don't even know if I spelled that right but what I thought was arthritis at the ripe old age of 32 turns out to be carpel tunnel syndrome or so my doc told me about 2 weeks ago. It is really cripling sometimes. My fingers cramp to the point that it hurts to move them and sometimes it goes all the way up my arm. My job calls for me to be on the computer alot and sometimes the pain is unbearable!

She mentioned some type of shot in the wrist but that does not sound like fun. Anyone got any other ideas as to easing the symptoms and pain?

I have that issue sometimes also, it's like your fingers lock in place? If so I have the same thing and I also get bad pain in my wrists.

I think you can buy wrist wrap thingies  that are supposed to help with the pain. Is the shot a steriod?

I read something recently that said that carpal tunnel and repetitive stress are not really related, although most people and doctors think they are. The article said that if you stop the repetetive motion - typing - and the symptoms go away, it's not carpal tunnel. I don't remember what the treatment options were, but you should definitely ask for a referral to a specialist for a better explanation. Keep asking for better specialists until they give you someone who can give you an explanation and diagnosis that makes sense compared to what you are feeling.

True carpal tunnel results in nerve damage, which can only be helped by surgery. Everyone I know who had the surgery said it didn't help.

My wife uses the wrist straps to help relieve her repetitive stress symptoms, like finger cramping, and she says they help. She types about 130 WPM, for about two hours at a time without breaks. She only needs the straps when the work is especially stressful. She uses them maybe two or three days per month.

I have the locking of fingers and wrist pain when I'm not using the computer.

I might have to check into the wrist wraps to see if it helps me.

Sorry sin. Got it too, but in my left hand. Strange because I don't use that hand on the computer. My fingers on the sides were going numb. Doc said "crapel tunnel." Unless it gets worse, there's nothing I can do except wear one of those wrist braces.

I've had surgery on both wrists.. the first hand was my left.. I got the shot first and 3 days later, i was in terrible pain and had to get the surgery.. 2 Years later, I had problems with my right hand and was offered the shot again.. i refused it and went straight to surgery.. I still have troubles every now and then in both hands..

Thanks for the info and advice! I am going to look into the wrist thingys. Its not just typing with me, its holding the paint roller, or basically anything in my hand for too long, pushing the vacuum etc.

I asked her if she thought it was arthritis, she did some kind of bend the wrist test that started bothering me w/in the first few seconds so she said carpel tunnel.

I do get a B6 or B12 shot, not sure which one it is. Thanks again everyone!
