Carpet Installation

Has anyone had carpet installed lately? What's the going rate?

That all depends. I've seen some pretty good deals. If you are going to put it in a room that doesn't have much traffic, you can go with a lower grade, therefore a lower price. If it is a high traffic area, you want the good stuff, which will cost you more.

What I'd be interested in knowing is where the good installers are in the county from those who have recently price shopped. :yay:

Our house has blue carpet everyone, we have 3-different shades of blue. Country blue, living room/steps/upstairs hall. Royal blue in the den, and a baby blue in the master bedroom. It is just way way way too much blue. We are going to put a reminante in the living room and install it ourselves, I just need to take the time and pick it out, but it will be in the brown/beige/something like that family. I do want to get a professional install on the stairs and upstairs hall, then again, we have seriously considered hardwood up the steps and in the hallway upstairs. Also, since there are several areas that will have to be seamed in the master bedroom, we will also have that professionally installed.

I have a friend who's getting quotes, but he doesn't know what's reasonable. He just wants to put in a neutral tone, but quality carpet. He got his first quote yesterday, he said it was around 21-22 bucks a sq yd/ft (I don't remember. Don't they do it by the yard?).

I don't remember either, but the price seems like it would be a square yard.

About a year and a half ago... I caught a sale at Lowes where they had some of their quality berbers for $0.69 per square foot.

They also have some installers who "itemize" installation. I saved mucho dolla by ripping out the old carpet myself and moving the furniture before they got there.

I got the berber, and 8 lb. carpet padding with odor shield installed on a stairwell with 15 or so steps, and in a 13'x9', 12'x12', and 25'x15' room for about $1300.

Thanks, sleuth. My friend has no desire to do it himself and can afford to have someone else rip the carpet out. I'm sure the quote's he's asking for include removal of the old carpet. He's also not interested in berber. He doesn't like it.

Have him check with Clarke's flooring. That's where we're getting our hardwood floors from, I know a couple folks who have used them and are very pleased with the price and the quality of service.

:peace:

No problem... if he catches Lowe's during a sale... he might be able to get one of their other carpet types on sale. They also offer no payments & interest from 12 months, but since they don't charge you 100% up front, I actually got about 15 months to pay mine off without interest.

I used to like Berber till the dog puked on it after eating a jar of peanut butter. :ohwell: I guess a Berber carpet wouldn't be bad if you could get it in like a dark multi-color Paisley design.

Or just feed your dog a room full of peanut butter after installation...
