Castro's fixing to croak

Did anybody see anything about this on MSNBC or FOX News? They just completely ignored it. CNN was all over it overnight. Huge protests in Miami as Castro delagated power to his brother Raul overnight bbecause's he wwas having intestinal bleeding and has to go into surgery. If he croaks, well, good riddance. I say that with the reminder that I lived most of my life in Florida and had to deal with that Elian Gonzolas crap.

Castro gave temporary control of Cuba to his brother Raul-
It's important to remember that the death or debilitation of the dictator is a first step on the difficult road of a transition to democracy! :patriot:

Mr. Castro must be like a hundred years old by now anyway. He's been in power since what, the VERY early 1960s?

Yeah, this might be the beginning of the end for him. Trouble is, the Cuban people have lived with this guy's government for so long, there might be significant resistance to change. WE sure think a democracy would be a good thing for them, but THEY might not want it. On the other hand, thousands of boat people might give us a clue that lots of folks WOULD support a change.

This morning, Fox News reported on Castro's condition. He's got a severe gastro-intestinal infection they're saying.

Apparently, he way overdid himself during a visit to Argentina.

What did they used to call that - Montezuma's Revenge?

Or somebody worse taking over. Though, usually, the successor isn't as bad.

Sometimes - sometimes not. Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, Mussolini - somebody was there before them and their names are not as familiar to us.

I know nothing about Castro's brother. Maybe he's a good guy - maybe he's a Communist jerk like his brother. I would suspect that latter.

And what happens if he dies? Does the brother take over automatically? Will they have elctions? Or will there be a bloody coup like how Castro got into power?

Viva la revolucion :coffee:

Protests?

Granted, I don't know much about Raul - although from what I've heard he seems like Fidel-Lite - but I would still think that every Cuban expatriate in America would be throwing grand celebrations and wild parties.

And most Americans, in general, are looking anxiously toward the horizon for that glorious day when we can go into a local emporium and purchase an exquisite Cuban Cigar.
