Cat in heat

happy to be living
The kitty that was dumped near my store is scheduled for vetting through PAWS in 2 weeks+. Shy-anne has adjusted to being indoorsand has taken over the biggest and most expensive dog bed, a laundry basket with a blanket and another fluffy dog/cat bed. Has taken to regular feedings, pets and being brushed, nail clippings, clean litter box, having tons of toys etc.

I think she has come into heat...as all of my cats have been *fixed* so I do not know what to expect.

Duration? Can she still be spayed if she is in heat? She has peed on the store floor and it is very smelly and sticky. Is that part of being in heat?

I think I may have to put her back in the kitty condo since I am guessing she may try to run out the door. I mean- her body is telling her to go *get some*, isn't it?? Although PAWS is trapping and vetting the ferals out back, I am sure there is a tom or two that would be happy to service her!
TIA

Sorry I can't help, but the way you worded that last bit was pretty funny. Thanks for the giggle

Shoot her.

Peeing (and smelly) is normal. She can be spayed while in heat. Some vets prefer to wait or can charge more because the uterus is somewhat larger and the blood vessels are carrying more blood.

I think the "heat" lasts a few weeks and she can come into heat every 3 weeks or so until she's either spayed or pregnant.

Is she howling? That's always fun.

Every 3 weeks- OMG! She is not howling -yet- but is meowing constantly. She is swishing her tail around and when you pet her, she twitches.
She will be vetted by the Promise Wagon and will have to check with PAWS closer to the time to see if I need to reschedule or put her on the pet taxi.

cat in heat = tramp

I'm sure she'll be fine to spay. Many times, vets don't know the cat's in heat until they open her up. It's not that bad, not as if she's pregnant and you want to spay her.

Fun story....

I adopted an older female kitty from ARF (already vetted, spayed, etc) and after a couple weeks she was doing the weird "cooing" and meowing and sprayed my couch. :barf: I called them and they checked her and it turned out she hadn't been spayed (the lady they got her from said she had been). I got her fixed for free since I paid the adoption fee, etc.

She was so sweet. I miss her. :bawl:

Methodically disorganized
when you pet her, she twitches.
That alone would be the sign for me. I have not had to deal with this for years, but I vividly remember one of my females being in heat; barely touching her would cause her to waggle her butt in the air and howl. Ugh.

Mary Beth the kitty is just doing what comes naturally. Give her some catnip. Or better yet you might try some anxiety drops if she is truely driving you batty.
