Cat Walking

My mistake was volunteering to take care of a kitten while I'm in college over full-time. I hardly spend any of my time at home, splitting it between classes and studying at friends' houses. My kitten is horribly lonely during the day, and while I would love to get her a playmate, I don't think my parents would be too happy with that. So, my solution is to be able to take my Abby with me at least to my friends' houses, but I don't want to have to lug a litterbox around (I know my friends wouldn't appreciate it either). Has anyone ever heard of training a cat to go outside (with leash or without), same as one would train a dog? I've only heard of this if a cat door is used. I don't want to give her free run of the yard, just enough to go to do her business and come back.

Any advice would be appreciated!
