13 charged in DOJ crackdown on Chinese espionage, influence campaigns

Authorities arrested two individuals, among seven facing charges, as part of an effort to "cause the forced repatriation of a PRC national residing in the United States." The DOJ unveiled the eight-count indictment on Oct. 20. The defendants in the case face accusations of surveilling and harassing a Chinese national living in U.S. as part of Beijing's "Operation Fox Hunt" that aims to extralegally repatriate Chinese individuals.

Earlier this month, news broke that China had established an "overseas police service station" in New York City to monitor its citizens while abroad and to provide them with bureaucratic and logistical support. Said station is one of at least 110 comparable facilities worldwide the regime uses to coordinate repatriation efforts, which have thus far returned an estimated 230,000 individuals to the communist country.

A further two, currently at large, individuals face charges for "attempting to obstruct a criminal prosecution in the Eastern District of New York." The indictment, unveiled Monday, identifies the defendants as intelligence officers for the People's Republic of China.

Dong He and Zheng Wang face accusations of scheming to "steal files and other information from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York related to the ongoing federal criminal investigation and prosecution of a global telecommunications company (Company-1) based in the PRC," the DOJ press release states. They allegedly paid a $41,000 Bitcoin bribe to a government employee to this end, though that employee was in fact an FBI double agent.

China caught 'trying to disrupt our justice system': DOJ accuses 10 Chinese spies and communist agents of 'malign schemes'

Attorney General Merrick Garland indicated that, in three separate cases, communist agents operating in the U.S. sought to execute the will of the genocidal Chinese communist regime — to "interfere with the rights and freedoms of individuals in the United States and to undermine our judicial system that protects those rights."

These newly unsealed indictments come at a time of growing tensions between China and the West and after recent revelations that the communist regime is running illegal police stations across North America and Europe.

‘This Is A Disgrace’: Experts, GOP Reps Call On The Biden Admin To Shut Down A Secret Chinese Police Station In NYC

The U.S. government must launch a probe into the Chinese overseas law enforcement operation in New York City, experts told the Daily Caller News Foundation, as other countries raise the alarm over reports of police stations on their soil.

“How in God’s name could they openly have these communist police stations in our country?” Beau Dietl, retired NYPD detective, told the DCNF.

“This shows the Chinese Communist Party is not afraid to exert its will outside of China, and we should do all that we can to counter this behavior,” Senate Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Jim Risch of Idaho told the DCNF.

Well: The Chinese have no business setting up a police organization in any city in this country , but what is also true is that the Muslims do not have that right either. and the Muslims have a New york city organization.

‘Everybody Is Very Concerned’: DC on Edge as Chinese-Made Drones Are Detected in Restricted Airspace

A surge in drone activity in restricted airspace over sites such as the White House, the Capitol and the Pentagon in Washington has U.S. officials concerned about possible Chinese espionage, Politico reported Wednesday.

Hundreds of Chinese-made drones have been detected in D.C. no-fly zones in recent months, according to the report.

The Senate Homeland Security, Commerce and Intelligence committees have been briefed on the alarming situation by U.S. officials and drone industry experts, according to Politico, which cited “three people privy to the meetings.”

“Everybody is very concerned and trying to figure out what to do,” a government contractor who has helped to collect drone data for federal authorities told the outlet.

We can say, we know for a fact, that Apple is covering for the government of China. Apple is the most valuable company in the world. It's got a current market cap of trillions of dollars. Financial listings describe Apple as an American company. You can see why they do. Apple is headquartered in the United States. It was founded by Americans. To this day, it's run by an American citizen, but those facts don't tell the story. In fact, at this point, Apple is in no sense American. Apple's loyalty is to the government of China and if you think that's an overstatement, consider this.

Earlier this month, Apple did the bidding of the Chinese government to crush domestic protests against the Communist Party there. Apple did this by disabling its permanent AirDrop feature in China and so far, only in China. It's the only country in which it's disabled. Why did Apple disable that feature in China? Well, because that feature, permanent AirDrop, allows iPhone users to communicate directly with one another without using the internet or cellular networks — both of which in a totalitarian state like China, are controlled by the government and that means that without permanent AirDrop, it's effectively impossible for freedom-minded citizens to organize with one another. They're powerless.

Apple, of course, knows this and that's why when iPhone users in China began using permanent AirDrop to complain about the Communist Party, Apple just shut it down. In other words — again, this is not an overstatement — Apple is now an active collaborator with China's murderous police state. When tanks roll into a Chinese city, Apple is rooting for the tanks.

Report: TikTok Spied On Forbes Journalists In “Covert Surveillance Campaign”

“this scandal could not have come at a worse time for TikTok, which is currently negotiating a national security contract with the multi-agency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) to address national security concerns raised by the app.”

Human Events reported:

TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has admitted to spying on Forbes journalists as part of a “covert surveillance campaign” aimed at unearthing the source of leaks inside the company following multiple stories exposing the organization’s deep ties to China and the ruling Communist Party.

Forbes reportedly exclusively on Thursday that ByteDance had “tracked multiple journalists covering the company, improperly gaining access to their IP addresses and user data in an attempt to identify whether they had been in the same locales as ByteDance employees.”
Investigations by Forbes into ByteDance’s surveillance tactics led to the firing of the company’s chief internal auditor Chris Lepitak who led these operations. The revelations also led to the resignation of China-based executive Song Ye, who Lepitak reported to and who had reported directly to ByteDance CEO Rubo Liang.

China Expert: Communist China Using TikTok To Promote Drug Use, Violence In America In Attempt To Ruin Country

“Well, first of all, China doesn’t have legitimate concerns. It’s not a legitimate state,” Chang said. “And we should stop treating it as such, because as you say, it is committing genocide, crimes against humanity, it deliberately spread COVID-19 beyond its borders — that 6.7 million people outside of China who have died from a disease that should have never left the central part of that country. You know, we can go on and on. But clearly, China is engaging in a series of acts which are destructive not only toward the United States, but the international community as a whole.”

A couple of minutes later, Chaffetz responded to a report this week that ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, spied on several U.S. journalists.

“President Trump banned TikTok along with WeChat,” Chang said. “President Biden, one of the first things he did was he reversed that ban. We know that over a course of years, about three or four of them, TikTok has been making representations to the U.S. about how it doesn’t allow data to be sent to China. And it’s violated every single assurance it’s given to the U.S. But it’s not just stealing data.”

All of a sudden, you can’t trust anything China says.

Yesterday, the UK Telegraph posted an article titled, “China’s Covid Nightmare Is the Final Proof: Lockdowns Were a Total Failure.” It begins by noting that “We will never know how many people are dying of Covid in China.” Allegedly, government-regulated mortuaries require relatives to sign a standarized form to release the corpse, a form which pledges “I guarantee that the deceased __________ did not die of Covid, and I will be fully responsible for any false claim.”

The games the Chinese are playing with their covid numbers has infuriated Team Lockdown. How dare they cook the numbers like that! It’s all wrong, they should be INFLATING the covid deaths, like the CDC does! Stupid Chinese.

As the Telegraph article describes in great detail, China’s covid story is more about the pigheaded stupidity of Marxian, centrally-planned lockdowns, which were already known to be a bad idea BEFORE the recent government-produced pandemic. China’s over-the-top draconian lockdowns, literally welding people into their apartments, probably cost millions of lives and incalculable losses of economic productivity.

How a CCP Operation Ensnared the US Government

As described in my earlier guest essay for this Substack, “Long history of China's CCP and Biowarfare”, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in collaboration with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has a long history involving development of its offensive Biological Warfare (BW) program. That piece explained how the CCP took over the Japanese Imperial Army’s WW II Biological Warfare program that brought such horror to the Chinese people from Japan’s Unit 731 based in Manchuria. Here now, we should first expand on how the Soviet Union teamed up with the CCP to develop both of their Biological Warfare programs into the massive state-run networks that they are today.

Then to get at the main theme for this essay, I will delve into the way the CCP eventually – I believe deliberately, methodically, and maliciously – ensnared the U.S. public health system and its leading officials in its own Biological Warfare program by way of partnerships on Gain-of-Function (GoF) research at the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill, the Galveston National Laboratory, and through U.S. Government (USG) funding for the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) channeled through Peter Daszak’s New York-based EcoHealth Alliance Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). While China certainly welcomed U.S. funding and technology, it did not actually need either: the CCP-PLA already had long been conducting GoF research, likely in collaboration with Russia. What the CCP did want, I believe, was to ensnare the USG in complicity for this or another Biological Warfare pandemic that it has repeatedly declared is a weapon of choice in its “Unrestricted Warfare” arsenal against the U.S.

FBI Raided Overseas Chinese Government Police Station In New York, Seized Materials: REPORT

During the raid, federal authorities reportedly seized materials from the third-floor office of America Changle Association, a Manhattan Chinatown organization that claims to serve overseas Chinese, according to the report, which cites FBI agents who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The report comes several months after the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed in October that a March 2021 video conference between Changle and Chinese government officials had identified Lu Jianwang, Changle’s former chairman, as a “propagandist” and “special liaison officer” who worked with the United Front Work Department (UFWD).

The UFWD is a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) agency that has engaged in “clandestine foreign intelligence work, propaganda and influence operations,” according to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.

The overseas Chinese government police station allegedly stationed within Changle’s New York office is reportedly linked to an international Chinese police unit known as 110 Overseas, headquartered in Fuzhou in China’s Fujian province, according to a report from Safeguard Defenders, a human rights group which first revealed the existence of Beijing’s global police network in September.

FBI Counterintelligence Raided Chinese Police Station in New York: Report

Subsequent media reports have revealed that the overseas service station in Manhattan is on the third floor of a building in Chinatown owned by the America ChangLe Association, named after a district in Fuzhou and led by a donor to New York City mayor Eric Adams’s political campaigns. The group’s tax-exempt status was revoked by the IRS last May, after it failed to file its taxes for three consecutive years, the New York Post reported.

While a spokesperson for Adams told the Times that the mayor does not know America ChangLe head Jimmy Lu, the Post also reported that Adams attended a dinner event last September sponsored by the organization alongside New York State and city officials and New York Police Department officers.

“As an important and powerful social organization, the ChangLe Association of the United States gathers a large number of economic talents, makes great contributions to New York where they live, and plays an important role in promoting new immigrants to improve their quality of life in New York,” Adams said in a speech during the event, per a Chinese-language news report about the event, whose purpose was to honor the inauguration of Lu and other new leaders of the group.

One of the more interesting aspects of the Biden classified documents drama is the appearance of a university-affiliated think tank, named for the president, that received millions as a “gift” from China while looking on paper like little more than an accounting code.

The Penn Biden Center, located in Washington, DC, but part of the University of Pennsylvania, is where the first classified documents were found and tells only one part of a larger story of years-long Chinese infiltration of American institutions.

On that front, China has been busy. They’ve been involved in setting up secret police stations in New York and LA, engaging in massive land buys in rural states, purchasing defunct and failing American college campuses, rolling out Confucius Institutes in colleges and k-12 schools, collecting user data on pervasive social media apps, seeking telecom dominance, moving fentanyl across the Southern border, and “gifting” millions to universities and policy-oriented think tanks. These things are documented, and are only what we know now. There could be – and likely will be -- more to come.

Less understood is the Biden family’s role in helping China succeed in some of their endeavors, although that part of the story promises to play out over the next couple of years as the Oversight Committee begins its investigation. Rep James Comer(R-KY), new head of the committee, had been busy on this front even before his party won the House.

INFOGRAPHIC: China’s Methods of Subversion and Unrestricted War Against America

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has for decades waged a quiet war against the United States, mobilizing all elements of its society, and targeting all institutions and foundations of the American system.

In this war, it is using a series of unconventional warfare tactics designed to achieve the goals of war, without engaging in troop-on-troop combat. Many of these tactics were detailed in the 1999 Chinese military book, “Unrestricted Warfare,” but pull from older deception tactics and from programs that were set in motion by the Soviet Union. The key goal is to win a war without fighting openly, to seize control of a society gradually, to steal an economy, and to use methods to intentionally keep the public distracted and unaware.

Among the overarching strategies is the process of subversion. The Soviet Union used subversion to spread its “communist revolution,” and the CCP has adopted many of the same strategies to export its “China model.” Subversion is a process to seize control of a country by destroying religion, morals, traditions, and everything that makes the country function; with the end-goal of bringing the country into a state of chaos, so that the public will support outside intervention to install a new form of government.

Here’s How Much US Farmland Has Been Bought Up By China

Ownership of U.S. farmland by Chinese nationals has risen significantly in the last decade and amounted to 338,000 acres as of 2020, according to U.S. Agriculture Department data.

Since 2010, Chinese nationals have reportedly purchased an additional 75,000 acres of U.S. farmland, according to U.S. Agriculture Department data obtained by the WSJ. Although amounting to less than 1% of all U.S. agricultural land held by foreign citizens, ownership of U.S. farmland by Chinese nationals has received increased scrutiny in recent years following warnings from U.S. government officials claiming that the Chinese government may seek to use land for military and espionage purposes, according to the WSJ.

“South Dakota is now the only home of the B-21 Bomber,” South Dakota Republican Governor Kristi Noem said on Friday. “That’s huge for both our state’s economy and our national security, but it also means that hostile countries like China are going to do whatever they can to get intelligence on that bomber.”

Chinese Investors Own 384,000 Acres of American Land

Of all the foreign-owned farmland in the U.S., China owns roughly 0.9 percent, or about $1.2 billion worth of land, according to the USDA report. The most recent purchase of such land was in North Dakota, when approximately 300 acres were bought by the Chinese food manufacturer Fufeng Group, which plans to build “a wet corn milling and biofermentation plant” in 2023.

Two weeks prior to the release of the report, Assistant Secretary with the Department of the Air Force Andrew Hunter sent a letter to North Dakota Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) discouraging the Fufeng purchase.

“The proposed project presents a significant threat to national security with both near- and long-term risks of significant impacts to our operations in the area,” Hunter wrote on January 27th, noting that the new Chinese mill would be located dangerously close to Grand Forks Air Force Base.

A counterintuitive take on the risk that China poses to the world

The premise of Archibald’s claim that China is not as forbidding as Xi Jinping makes it appear is summed up in a single sentence: “China has a lot of structural problems that make it a fragile state, a frail state and even potentially a future failed state.” Archibald makes five major points:

One: China’s demographic games have been disastrous. Mao, who believed in big battalions, deliberately encouraged massive population growth, which peaked at about 1.4 billion. The result is that China cannot feed its population. That continues to be true despite its one-child policy that has now left China in a demographic tailspin with an aging population that a smaller, youthful population must support.

Archibald, who accepts that the population is still roughly 1.4 billion (rather than the low of 1 billion that I’ve heard), says that only a quarter or so of the population engages with the greater world. Over a third of the population is engaged in agriculture:

Another four hundred and twenty-five million are agricultural workers. So your average Chinese agricultural worker only feeds himself and two other people.
Bear in mind that in Western countries about 2% of the population are in agriculture and they feed the other 98%. Recently I visited a farm in Western Australia that produces 40,000 tonnes of wheat per year with three full time staff. So each of those workers feeds about 25,000 other people.

Moreover, says Archibald, China’s staple food crop, rice, is primarily hand planted on terraces. If that’s correct, Chinese farmers operate at a subsistence level, feeding only themselves and their families. No wonder, then, that the Chinese, in 2022, “imported 147 million tonnes of grain and soybeans in order to put meat on the table in the form of chicken and pork.” If China goes to war, those food imports stop.

China’s CCP warns Elon Musk against sharing Wuhan lab leak report

  • Chinese state-run media warned Tesla CEO Elon Musk that he was risking his relationship with China after he retweeted about the U.S. government’s “low-confidence” assessment that the Covid pandemic originated in a Wuhan laboratory.
  • The warning comes ahead of a congressional hearing on China, and after the downing of a Chinese espionage balloon heightened tensions between Beijing and the U.S.

A Chinese state-run newspaper issued a warning to Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he shared reporting on the U.S. Department of Energy’s “low confidence” assessment that the global Covid pandemic originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

CNBC’s Eunice Yoon reported Tuesday morning on the warning from the social media pages of the Global Times, the English-language subsidiary of the government-controlled People’s Daily. The Global Times warned Musk that he could be “breaking the pot of China” after the Tesla and Twitter CEO responded to tweets that asserted that the Covid pandemic originated in a Wuhan research laboratory.
