Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students recently completed in the 55th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference held in Louisville, Ky. A team of the state’s most talented Career and Technology Education (CTE) high school students showcased their skills in 94 CTE competitions. More than 6,400 students from the United States, along with those from Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands, competed.
Madison Grace, a 2019 graduate of North Point High School earned a bronze medal in the Early Childhood Education category.

SkillsUSA competitions are showcase events for CTE students. Students compete locally and continue through the state and national levels. The philosophy of the competition is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to train students for employer needs and future career goals.
SkillsUSA is a national partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure a skilled work force. The organization serves more than 300,000 high school and college students, as well as professional members, nationwide. As part of the SkillsUSA program, students gain experiences in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. The organization focuses on quality of work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, lifelong education and pride in the dignity of work.
