Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) staff is monitoring the weather for all graduation ceremonies, including the forecast for Thursday, June 3, 2021. If staff feel it is safe for CCPS to host outdoor graduation ceremonies at Regency Furniture Stadium, ceremonies will move forward as scheduled. Seniors from Maurice J. McDonough High School are set to graduate tomorrow in a 9 a.m. ceremony, followed by seniors from North Point High School in a 1 p.m. ceremony. Rain, unless accompanied by dangerous weather conditions, will not cause CCPS to cancel tomorrow’s celebrations.
CCPS intends to have graduations as scheduled tomorrow; however, if the weather forecast shows a dangerous thunderstorm and/or lightning, graduations for tomorrow may be delayed or canceled. CCPS has emergency plans in the event dangerous weather occurs after a ceremony begins. Anyone planning to attend an outdoor CCPS graduation ceremony set for June 3 at Regency Furniture Stadium should dress accordingly and plan to bring rain gear.
Any inclement weather decisions for the 9 a.m. graduation ceremony for Maurice J. McDonough High School will be made as early as 6:30 a.m. tomorrow. Parents and students will receive a phone call, email and text message notification. CCPS will also post an update on the school system website, social media and 24-hour information line. If no announcement is made, the ceremony is taking place as scheduled.
Any inclement weather decisions for the 1 p.m. graduation ceremony for North Point High School will be made as early as 10 a.m. tomorrow. Parents and students will receive a phone call, email and text message notification. CCPS will also post an update on the school system website, social media and 24-hour information line. If no announcement is made, the ceremony is taking place as scheduled.
If a decision is made by CCPS to cancel any outdoor graduation ceremony, the rain plan is for graduation events to occur outside at the school on Wednesday, June 9.
The rain plan in the event of a cancellation for tomorrow will result in the creation of a virtual commencement ceremony similar to the graduations that were held for the Class of 2020. The virtual commencement ceremony includes an in-person stage crossing and photo opportunity in the school parking lot. Rain plans, if utilized, will take place at a senior’s home school. Photos of each graduate crossing the stage will be taken and edited into a virtual ceremony which will include pre-recorded graduation speeches and performances. Virtual commencement ceremonies will be aired on the CCPS website, ccboe.com, and the school system YouTube channel.
