Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is hosting an internet safety presentation on Sept. 9. The virtual event will start at 4 p.m. with Joseph Dugan, an internet safety specialist, covering ways parents can keep their children safe on the internet.
Dugan, a retired police officer with more than 35 years of experience, is an internet safety specialist with the Maryland State Police. In his last seven years as an officer, Dugan investigated crimes against children and internet crimes against children for the Harford County Child Advocacy Center.
The presentation — which usually spans an hour — covers topics such as the loss of privacy, sharing illegal images (sexting), exposure to graphic content (violent games and adult imagery), online predators and cyberbullying.
The presentation contains adult themes and is not recommended for children. It is designed to share information with parents that will help them teach their children how to be safe while on the internet.
