Cd to mp3

Anyone know of a decent free converter program that won't cause me the grief I have run into three times today?

I've always used iTunes - even before I started liking and using Apple devices - to rip CD music to compressed formats, load it on mp3 players, and burn CDs. The interface is very simple and easy to use, but at the same time greater functionality is just a couple clicks away if someone wants to use it.

I stick a CD in the drive and it automatically queries Gracenote to get the album information (e.g. cover art, track names), downloads the songs, converts the wave files into whatever format I've previously designated, and ejects the CD to let me know it's done and ready for the next one. I have thousands of CDs, so getting them all into my digital library would otherwise be a bit of a chore.

At an average rate of around 2 minutes per CD, how flippin' long is it going to take me to import 8 gazillion CDs into my iTunes library? This is already getting old and I'm only about half way through the country CDs.

import while you are watching TV or a Movie ......

Oh, I've been doing several other things at the same time as the process doesn't consume much in the way of brain space. It does however tie up the hands at frequent intervals, though only briefly, which is the frustrating part considering how long it would seem it is going to take.

That said, there are people in the world wondering where their baby's next meal is going to come from, so I should probably STFU, stop complaining about nonsense, and get back to counting my blessings.

if you will
I just take my time, ripping a few CDs a day. For the rich amongst us, there are services that will convert them for you if you ship them off to them. They convert them, load them to some sort of portable hard drive, and ship it all back.

Yikes! Talk about disposable income. I can't imagine having enough money that I'd feel I could justify that (and yet not having enough money to just re-buy everything I wanted digitally instead of ripping it from my CD collection).

I'm done with the country CDs now and about halfway through the Rock CDs. This is going to take forever.

Must finish before iOS 5 is released. Must finish before iOS 5 is released. Must finish before iOS 5 is released.
