Cedar Point FCU

I'm not very happy with Chase, (who incidentally lost a lot of money on the investment side)... because of the 1-800 CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE WHO DONT SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL! And they have some wacky credit card apps that make no sense.

So, I went to the local Cedar Point..... they seem reasonable and I know many many people in the tri-counties use Cedar Point. So, I'd appreciate the goods and bads please.

They never paid worth a damn in interest even when rates were/are high. I still have an account there but keep most of my money in ally and discover banks.

I have used many banks over the years, and I have to say, CPFCU has made more mistakes with my accounts during the 3 years I’ve been with them vs all the other banks combined in the last 45 years. FWIW. And there is more employee turnover at the CPFCU branch I use than most other banks. And it still pisses me off each time they ask for my ID to make a DEPOSIT into my own account!

I‘ve decided I’m not credit union material. I’ve slowly been moving my accounts.

I'm with RR and recommend Navy Federal, unless you're someone who needs to do a lot of face to face transactions. Their lack of branches in our area can be frustrating at times, but they're who I do most of my banking with. I have a Cedar Point account only because Wifey worked there and got Mommy Dearest and my kids to use them and it's easier to transfer money between accounts.

If you use a debit card online and choose CPFCU, I recommend only keeping enough money in checking to cover what you plan to pay out in a day or two. My debit card has been compromised twice in the last 5 or so years, my Navy Federal card has never been comprimised. It truly sucks if it happens on a weekend, you are without access for the weekend, so keep a backup ready.

CPFCU also allows outside transactions access to your savings account, NFCU doesn't. Be very watchful if you choose them.

There seems to be a common thread that we all see. Banks collapsing, banks merging, interest rates at .0000000000.00001%, savings, 29.999% on credit cards, piss poor employees, banks 1-800 numbers manned/personed by foreigners....

By gosh, by darn, it ALMOST seems like this was planned. Like fires, immigration overflow, pandemics, jobs lost, ....

Maybe Mike Lindell can make a mattress and a pillow case..... with pockets like these new mens underwear.

Seriously though, thank you for the input.
Ally and Discover both pay excellent rates and have US based customer service, ones that actually speak English.

FWIW I've never had any account or card compromised, but I'm very cautious of everything I do with my accounts.

If someone wants it bad enough, all the SSL in the world can't protect you. Thieves are cunningly little bastards. I was just answering from experience. It's not like I lost thousands, but if the account you use primarily for day to day life is compromised on a Friday, you're ****ed for the weekend. I didn't have a CC to fall back on at the time. Being poor isn't for the timid. Also, anything that was scheduled for a Monday posting, went back to the creditor, further ****ing up your life and causing headaches that had to be corrected. As always, YMMV. Peace.

Hate to sound like a broken record, Ally has 24/7 customer service. I've called on a Sunday night at 10PM to have my account unlocked to get my 1099INT. Discover card has an awesome app where you can turn off the card from your phone and turn it back on yourself. I keep mine turned off most of the time.

I'm glad that works for you, really. I prefer to never have to talk to a live person on the phone. It's not like I have that much money to need all those accounts and what not. I think Greg may need more of the kind of banking that you do. I just gave my advice based on a poor man's POV. :yay:

I'm not so much pimping them as I am wondering why all banks and cards don't have those perks/features.

Because they suck. When you find one that meets your needs, and in my case quirks, it's good to stick with them.

As soon as you do they usually are bought out, merged etc and everything changes.

The bank I opened up my first savings account with in the early 80s as a kid has had about 20 different names on the branch where I did it. I still got my savings booklet from them.

Tis why we've kept most of our money with the locally owned and operated bank in northern Illinois starting back in 1996.
They are part of a small "chain," but the ownership is still local.
