Cedar Shingle Siding......

Ok I have Cedar Shingles on my house that are in need of some attention. They appear to have been stained with a fairly dark Opague stain that is starting to flake off. I want to change the color to a lighter one. I have had good luck with Olympic Maximum Toner on my deck so I would like to use the solid color version on my siding. Do I pressure wash the shingles and then just go over them with the new stain, do I use stain stripper and then go over with the new stain or should I forget a lighter color stain all together?

I have had good luck with stain stripper and a pressure washer on decks. Be careful with the pressure washer on the cedar

After 10 years of re-staining the siding every year, we have decided to paint. It will be a similar color, but will protect the wood longer/better. If you are set on staining, I think you need to find out if the stain that is on the house is oil-based or ? It makes a difference about what to do with the stain you put on top. If it is a different base than what you have, you have to strip off the old. Not much help, but it's all I know :flowers:
