It isn't like you attach them to the phone, you can get them to install in either/or/and auto and home. They boost the signal that is available. I had one for 5 - 6 years out here until it got a lightening strike close by that burnt it out.

There are, but they almost always require the cell phone have an antenna that can be removed, that you can plug into.

I installed an amp/repeater on base for GHMD. Antenna on the roof, dual-band receiver/amp. Worked well. Home versions here:
