A area were its hard to place a call but if you go outside or around the house you can.

I need to test a cell repeater in a location like this.

A guy at work calls the act of walking around, holding one's phone like a compass, looking for a signal, "southern Maryland land navigation."

When I lived in St. Leonard, my husband used to joke that you would have to go to the bottom of our driveway, put your right arm in the air, put your left foot up and turn around five times to place a call. Actually, I would have to drive about a mile from the house to place a call. We were a block from the bay and from what I was told that entire area was a dead zone no matter what carrier you used.
