No. I don't watch it pretty much at all. I have seen it about half a dozen times at the stadium, and it was fun to watch live. Can't reproduce the sound or exhaust smell on TV. I do recall that Jeremy Mc-whatever dude wracking up the trophies about 10 years or so ago. Changing of the guard, I guess.

On par with NASCAR, IMHO.

McGrath was 20 years ago. The GOAT and Bubba followed.

I was in Anaheim but left right before the race. Did see the Ducks beat the Wings though. Love me some SX. Great race.

Nah. Reed should be retired. Reed is 11 years younger than McGrath, won his last major championship in '09, sealing it at Budds Creek, and has been declining the last few years as he reached his late 20's and is now 31. McGrath one his last of his record 7 SX champions ships at 29. Ricky Carmichael, the GOAT, greatest of all time, won his last title in '06 at 27 and retired.

I'm trying to find out who the oldest championship winner was as well as oldest to win a race.

Reed winning last weekend, I'm trying to find a good analogy, is sort like a 41 year old NFL quarterback playing well? Maybe older?

So, Reed should be done.

Riding a dirt bike professionally is arguably the toughest sport on the planet; stamina, balance, coordination, concentration and the non stop threat of being hurt pretty good or crippled. Reed winning again is simply amazing.

Thanks for the history lesson, LG. McGrath was the only name I think I ever knew in the sport. Started taking my kids to the event at the old Big Sombrero mid to late 90's, and then in the new CIT Stadium. Last time was probably around 2002.

Those dudes are fun to watch when they fly over the big hump and do their aerobatics, and they take a pounding when they hit all those series of bump-d-bumps or whoopty doops or whatever they are called. That'll rattle your bones and joints no matter how old you are. Must really jar Mr. Reed at his advanced age.:buddies:

Whoops.

Whoops are easy...as long as your rhythm and timing are right. Other than that, they are crazy difficult. Kinda like bull riding, I guess, where, if you're in sync, it looks effortless and, if not, you get kicked in the head, stomped on and spit out like used bubble gum. And then, in SX, run over, landed on, by the guy(s) behind you. Whoops are where Reed is, perhaps, the most dominant against the field and where he makes up a lot of ground. Plus, the man knows how to make a pass and make it stick. HUGE in terms of experience.

It is truly a big deal in the sport that he won. It's not like it is out of the blue. Everyone knows he is still a threat to podium (1st, 2nd or 3rd) and that means if a few things go your way, you can win, meaning someone else(s) screwed up and he did have some luck in this race, two of the top dogs going down late, but, he beat one of the best, fair and square, in the last couple laps to take it.

Just a great, great SX race. :buddies:

And what made it better is that he passed Bubba..

As a Stewart fan, I had to just sit there and take it, watching 7 find another way to lose but, for damn sure, I appreciated what he did! I mean, Stewart didn't fall, for once, to lose a race. He got BEAT.

Chad earned that one but, hard, in every way.

I have all the respect in the world for Stewart and he rides the wheels off the bike but he just gives too many away. I don't know, maybe when he races hard he loses his concentration. Still one of the best.. JMHO

Supercross is not too far removed from riding on ice. It is sooooooo slick on those stadium tracks so, patience and throttle control are key. Bubba is balls to the wall. Outdoors, there's always something for the tires to grab ahold of but, it gets REAL sudden so, there is an enormous amount of reflex, body control and just being able to relax and let the bike fly all over the place and that more suits 7. Indoors, man, the concentration, lap after lap, corner after corner. Favors guys like Reed and Dungey who are more Mr. Cool than maniacs.

And all that speaks to the genius of Villopoto these last three years because he the best of both Stewart, just going for it, and the concentration and control guys. He doesn't go down, banging bars with Stewart, makes that pass stick, anyone doubt how that race ends?

At the end of the day, Reed, no one right now, has the speed and control to hang with 'Poto. Reed gave him a hell of a battle in Dallas, what, 2 seasons ago, and was keeping up until the wreck that blew up his knee BUT, you could just see, Ryan was riding his race, in his zone, which is faster and better than everyone else and you could just sense that Reed was out in the DEEP water, inches beyond his comfort zone. I think Reed was gonna go down in that race sooner or later.

In any event, this makes the season off to a fantastic start and a legit 4 or 5 man race with Stewart not out of the picture yet either. Until someone beasts him, this is still Ryan Villopotos world.
