Actually, no!!! I'm proud of Bush, it is great to have a leader that is not afraid to make decisions. We did very well in Charles County with the Bush ticket and never expected to win the county. Dems far outnumber Republicans in registrations (35,000 to 25,000) and to lose by less than 700 votes tells me that people voted with thier heads, not party politics.
Kerry was very weak on defense and if he was elected, we would be fighting Iraq in the USA.

:larry: Here is a letter to the Editor from our Enterprise newspaper website click Link here, a Hollywood local woman that tells how the excessive growth is hurting St. Mary's County and how she said the Navy Base could close down and we would survive. Amen sister, amen.

I have also heard that the base is this county’s viable interest. Ever since I was child, this base has had its share of rumors of closing. It is still here after more than 50 years. The base isn’t here due to any one person, it has to do with strategics. Well, guess what, if the base ever went away, we would survive. Bases have been closed all over and those areas survive, just in a different fashion.
They "survive, just in a different fashion". I wonder what that "fashion" would be...
How many people here in the county today are on government assistance?
A lot fewer than if the base closed down.
How many bank foreclosures have happened?
A lot fewer than if the base closed down.
How many vacant lots, properties, etc. are here?
A whole lot fewer than if the base closed down.
How many of our current business establishments are foreign owned, that is, owned by people who don’t live here?
Well, I guess you wouldn't have to worry about that one since there would be very few surviving businesses.

So, I guess the "fashion" would be "Derelicte". :lmao:

So there is one person in the county that agrees with you. She doesn't have any facts, just assumtions. Just like you. Too bad she isn't in 29B. She sounds just dumb enough to have prevented your shutout in the primary.

I have another question...

I was watching the local tv channel... that's channel 6 in Calvert on Comcast. I have been watching the Commissioners meetings to keep informed since 1999.

Apparently a foundation to bring a retired Navy boat to Solomons was pitching the idea to the County Commissioners yesterday. This foundation as a Sherman Class boat... the first... and they want to turn it into a museum at the dock at the Naval Rec Center at Solomons.

Here's the question... Do you think it would be good for the River to build a pier or upgrade the pier there for a Sherman Class Naval vessel?

Also... this foundation had pitched the idea to Cambridge and apparently they didn't want it because now they are in Calvert pitching it.... does anyone have any idea why that could be? :coffee:

Nobody wants it because it is a losing proposition. They love the old ship, so they think people will flock to see it. They are wrong.

The ship is an environmental hazard. Lead paint, PCB's, Asbestos.

What would probably happen? The "foundation" would get the ship in place and do some refurbishment. They would have a few visitors, but not many. The project would go bankrupt. The county would be stuck with a rusting hulk, further polluting the river and bay.

Thanks.... when I heard that whole presentation I told my husband that it is a horrible idea... a waste of money.... a money pit....

Both of us said out loud "What are they thinking?"

Another Question

How do you feel about the traffic circle planned for Solomons?

Stupid.

However, if you look at what people do on the island it may make a little sense. They drive down the island, get to the end, and do a three point turn around.

What they need isn't a full blown traffic circle, but an easy turn around would be useful. Since the island is a "tourist" area, making it easier to navigate would probably improve the image, and could increase revenue.

I don't think it should be a circle, but it could definitely be improved. Take the rest of the money and start the bridge.

Well said.

I was thinking a parking area with turning space would work down there.

It seems a lot of people use that area at the end as an overlook. Right now there's only some shabby paving.

:larry: Here is another link to an Enterprise letter in this week's paper July 19, 2006,

The guy is giving a crude but honest complaint because he too can see the out-of-control growth damaging St. Mary's County.

What that writer needs is real caring political leaders to speak up for him, but the politicians hold office now have sold out our home town to the greed of big business and have allowed this senseless and reckless growth to over run our hometown. I plan to put a stop to it when I get elected and then ordinary citizens will be heard because I will speak for them.

Yes... credit is due... and sorry... I meant '94...

We are very happy that our Delegate O'Donnell and Senator Dyson got them to help us. The only way we could get that assistance was the Special Taxing District classified us as a "Quasi Government" not unlike a municipality.
I seem to remember Jerry Clark meeting with Steny Hoyer And extracting a promise that he would do his best to get Federal help. And wasn't it Hoyer who came through in the end?

Take a good hard look!!

Why put it at the Navy Rec Center? Local residents can't use the facilities there or even enter there. If its to be for Navy families put it were there are a lot of them. The Washington Navy Yard would be a good place. Of course the locals could see the ship if they had enough gas money to fuel their boats and ride out on the river. YIPPEE!! Beware of Gary Hodges bearing gifts. I bet there is more in it for him than any of the locals.

I saw a flyer for a public meeting on the roundabout to be held on July 25 at 7 pm at the Chesapeake Biological Labratory. You probably could get more info by attending that meeting.

 Many people from St. Mary's have been pushed out to live up by D.C. or Baltimore but this is still their home. I have family from here that now lives up there and I believe all locals have some family members that have been pressed to leave St. Mary's.

:larry: I agree that letter to the Editor was poorly written but at least the man had the guts to speak up for our home instead of acting like a powerless sheep that accepts getting the growth dumped onto us.

That writer is a common citizen and not some polished politician so even he knows that the growth is wrong and he might not write it perfectly but he is no coward and he atleast is trying to help our community.

I too am no polished politician but I see that our present representatives have betrayed us, so I too speak up but with my action of campaigning for election, because the officials we have now do not do the job.

I don't believe Hoyer came to the area. I doubt Jerry Clark knew how to get the funds.... Tony O'Donnell had the research done through the Infrastructure Task Force so that we knew the only issue we were missing was the government [or municipality] rating. Since there was a Special Taxing District in both Drum Point & CRE... the funding was available.

So Jerry may have had a photo op... I don't remember Hoyer being there but I do remember O'Donnell and Dyson.

Maybe Hoyer flew over.... :coffee:

Fact is, tho it was actually the Task Force that identified the defining question to answer [and I was on the task force]. I remember the hours we spent discussing the lack of FEMA and MEMA funding.
