Changing name on deed (quit claim deed)

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone has done a successful quit claim deed, to change their deed to their married name. The ladies at the circuit court could not give me any information, and the quit deed form I gave them did not meet their requirements. I'm trying to do this without a lawyer if at all possible. Does anyone have any suggestions that worked for them? Thanks in advance :)

Just curious whatever you find.

The spelling of my wife's name on our deed is wrong. I noticed it after I got the docs in the mail. I had contacted the titling company a week or so afterwards, however they never got back after they said they would.

I'm just curious how would this be handled etc...

Hopefully they told you what form DOES meet the requirement. I recently did one of these for some property in Virginia. It was a matter of completing the form, getting it notarized and then completing the transaction at the county courthouse where the property is located. Perhaps a real estate person could advise on the correct form to use. I understand they may have the forms at Staples.

So if I co-signed a mortgage (and as such I'm on the mortgage as a co-owner) and the person I co-signed for stopped paying the mortgage - and I rescued the property from foreclosure and have paid the mortgage for a few years, can I go through the quit-claim process and become the owner?

The other person can file the quit claim. however it does not absolve them from the mortgage or take them off of the mortgage paperwork. It ONLY takes them off of the deed. So there is very little benefit for the person filing the quit claim, so it would depend on your relationship with them.
