If I ever meet the grease monkey that installed the oil filter in my Suburban before I bought it, I am gonna shove a filter wrench up their nose sideways.
Access to the filter is somewhat limited. It's directly over the front driveshat u-joint.
I only had about 2 inches of swing for my ratchet. Tried 2 different socket style filter wrenches and 1 adjustable one that fits on a ratchet. No joy. This was after trying a strap type. Not enough access to be able to use the strap type.
Old filter was on so tight that the socket style wrench that fit the filter was stripping the end of the filter. I ended up going the Craftsman filter wrench route. I was shoving so hard on the handle of the screwdriver after driving it thru the filter that I was actually lifting the truck on it's suspension until the filter FINALLY broke loose.
I swear I think the grease monkey did not oil the gasket and used an air tool to put the old filter on.
It took me over an hour start to finish to change the oil in the truck. Not fun. Next time it should take <10 minutes as I installed the new filter properly (oil on gasket and 1/4 turn past just snug by hand).
Thankfully AutoZone has a good return policy and I was able to return all 4 of the oil filter wrenches I bought to try to get the unknown brand filter off the truck.
