Ubi bene ibi patria
I received a letter from the Police Protective Fund. Apparently it is based in Los Angeles but the donation card lists a Maryland address to receive donations. It says that they educate police officers about the dangers of wearing a badge. That's a bit of a laugh. It provides a $10,000 death benefit to the slain police officer's family but only if the officer enrolled in it. It doesn't say that there is an enrollment fee of any sort. May be they're selling insurance policies to the officers.
Their Charity Navigator page show them spending most of the money for administrative costs.

They say their weblog is sponsored by the American Association of Police Officers. I can't find any information about them on the web.

They have another tax deductible entity called the Junior Police Academy. Most of the money is spent on administrative costs.

Are there any local LEO's who have received benefits from this organisation?
