Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Reading another thread about Thanksgiving Traditions - seemed like it died out a little so....in case you're interested - Charlie Brown Thanksgiving will be on television Tuesday November 20th on ABC at 8:00. Felt nostalgic after reading that thread and found the movie Alice's Restaurant on DVD on Amazon, think that will become my new Thanksgiving tradition.

You know what I don't like, though? That you can just get holiday movies on DVD and watch them any old time. It's more fun to anticipate it coming on TV and making a production out of it.

:yeahthat: I made the mistake of picking up a couple of the classics on VHS when my first born hit toddler age... I broke the magic...:frown:

You're right - it's much more fun that way - but I always seemed to miss them or they just quit showing them. I've never been able to pick up Alice's Restaurant on tv (not sure it's ever been shown on tv), or the Bernestein Bears Christmas Tree which is hilarious, or The Homecoming - A Christmas Story - remember that one - it was the start of The Waltons?

We are so busy all the time we miss them when or if they are on Tv. I like to own them then we can plan a family movie night and watch them together as a family. I even have the older ( grown kids ) come to the house so we can watch them together. We only watch the Christmas ones at Christmas then put them away untill the next year. "It's a Wonderful Life " is my fav.

We get a new one on DVD each year. Got A Christmas Story two years ago , Muppet Christmas Carol last year, now I want to get Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas.

We also have a VHS copy of the original "Christmas Eve on Sesame Street" fromn 1979- the one when Mr. Hooper was still alive. Rescued it from the pre-viewed rack at Blockbuster for a measly $2.

I started taping them off of the T.V. when I had my first child and I am glad that I did because when they put them on television now so much is missing from them. They have chopped the heck out of a lot of the hour long ones to make way for commercials. In Rudolph Jessica doesn't get to sing all of her song - stuff like that.

Alice's Resturant--What memories, I first saw it in the post theater at Fort Myer. The entire house had fits especially the ones like my roomie who had went throught induction at Whitehall. He swore they must have filmed inside of the building.

I know what you mean. We're making popcorn balls the night Rudolph comes on. We have it on tape but it's not the same as watching it on T.V. I cannot wait.
