Charlotte Hall Veterans Home

My father had recently been transferred to Charlotte Hall and placed in the Alzheimer's care unit. I wanted the opportunity to say how wonderful a place it is and how kind and caring the staff has been.

If you would like to thank a veteran for Memorial Day or any day and you are in the area, visit Charlotte Hall.

This government funded facility is a gold star for Southern Maryland and well worth visiting.

Since when? I worked in the business office 2 years ago and they did accept the spouses. I know for a fact that they still accept them in the Assisted Living wing.

Contact the V.A. about it.

I'd be very surprised to find out that was true. The Veterans Home has received excellent State surveys for years.

I used to work there MANY years ago. They are very attention to detail and make sure they are clean and comfortable and we helped them eat when they couldn't eat themselves. I sincerely doubt anyone gets abused there. All the women I worked with loved and cared about all their patients. One thing I can tell you is, being a CNA is not an easy job! They gave you 10 or more patients of your own and their were several things that had to be done with each patient and you only had your 8 hrs. to do it in. It was HARD work! I loved my job and the only reason I had to quit was because I became pregnant and was unable to do the lifting anymore. I agree that that place is an excellent facility! :howdy:

They are understaffed.

I cannot say this enough....family must be proactive and an advocate for their loved one whenever they are placed in any nursing center!

Facilities are generally understaffed and there is a policy that they CANNOT force feed anyone. I went there every day. Luckily my dad was in good enough shape to speak up - cognizant, lucid - so I knew how every meal was and any complaints/concerns he had. I was able to work with the staff towards resolution on almost everything and I also learned a great deal about their processes, procedures, etc. I only had to report one person and when I did - they were gone immediately.

I still go every week to visit certain patients that I know haven't had a visitor in MONTHS or even YEARS which, to me, is horrible on the part of the families.

How very true, they do over tax the EMS system, I have been there many, many times with the EMS company I run with, its one of the above stations and not the one from St Mary's.
Although they have many calls there, they have alot of residents maybe up to 400 or so now and any care facility with the elderly call 911 alot.
Ive found it to be a nice place, appears to be clean and the staff for the most part are helplful when you come to take a resident to the hospital.
Its a family joke at my house (I live just a stones throw through a cornfield from there) they are always telling Old Hillcrest Guy its time to pack my bags they are taking me down the street. :killingme

At least its being overtaxed by something respectable in your community, and its not an urgent care or a drug rehab center.... or a homeless shelter. lol
