And see how much you paid in taxes over the year.

Scary, isn't it?

And what's even scarier? Your employer paid in SS and Medicare to match what you paid. PLUS federal and state unemployment.

That's a lot of money.

Too bad it goes to deadbeats and foreign nations instead of in your pocket, isn't it?

When the government gets more in taxes per month than I pay in housing, I DO get hostile. I'm tired of being accused of not paying 'my fair share' when I see deadbeats qualify for every freebie under the sun and I can't even qualify for unemployment insurance. And just what makes those career politicians any more qualified than the average American to run the country? At least most of us manage to keep a balanced budget.

I have always said that if taxes werent taken out of salary before you ever see it things would change.

Pay everyone in cash on paydey, hand them the money, then let them count back one third of it to the government to pay their taxes and you would soon see a hue and cry go up that would make politicians think twice before passing pork bills.

The problem is that it seems so easy when you never get to see it.

Now if we only saved the same way!

But you're right. Most folks look forward to filing their taxes for the refund, not realizing, it's their own money they're getting back. You overpaid!!!

How many of us would be willing to overpay Walmart week after week and then in February, go back to the store to get our money back?

Gotta love this. They put it on my leave and earnings statement.......

TAXABLE INCOME $21349789347987.00 whatever

Non Taxable income is always ZERO. It's stupid to even put it there.

You must have relativley cheap housing or are you counting state, local, sales, and all those taxes that get added on to the utility bills?

...I can't even qualify for unemployment insurance.
Why don't you qualify for unemployment insurance? If you work, don't you qualify should the unfortunate happen and you loose your job?

Nothing, except they stood up and put their name on a ballot.

That's the crux of the problem, right there. There was never intended to be any such thing as a career politician. Term limits seems like an easy step in the right direction. I never vote for an incumbent, regardles of their record. Everyone hates Congress, but then they turn around and send the same damn reps back time after time. KICK EM OUT and give someone else a turn!!!!

If the founders didn't want career politicians, wouldn't they have included term limits in the original draft of the Constitution. Remember, a lot of the founders were, in fact, career politicians.

Tell me where in La Plata you can live cheaply? I'm just adding up what shows as taxes on my paycheck.

I taught NJROTC at Westlake for a year after I retired from the Navy. After the school year ended, I looked for another job, and applied for unemployment benefits. I was told I don't qualify for unemployment benefits, but my employers still have to pay into the system.

What bugs me is everyone forecasting that Social Security may not even be around when we need it, so all that money we invest into the system we may never collect on....

The founders werent politicians, they were Patriots. They took off a few weeks a year and went to Congress, often at their own expense. Todays Politician cannot be compared to the founders.

The Founders would have crapped their pants if someone had suggested they give themselves a pay raise every year,a full pay retirement, medical expenses , a staff of hundreds, barber shops ,free parking, etc etc etc.

Nope, all of us conservatives should follow Ann Coulter's lead and put a liberal democrat (with a liberal Congress) in the WH so those numbers can go WAY up. There's no limit to our giving.

I am a firm believer that if Americans had to write out that tax bill monthly, rather than having it confiscated by the government before ever getting your paycheck, people would be a lot more aware of where every dollar was being spent by the government. So congress would not get away with funding half the "earmarks" and pork barrel spending they currently, because we are all just glad to get what is left ...........

FYI and of course Congress knows this and would never support abolishing the IRS or the current confiscation of tax money

It's currently paying out to the elderly, retired and welfare. The problem is that when all of us "baby boomers" are ready to collect, there will more of us than the system can support, being that the system is already stressed. There are many who feel the system will collapse.

I tend to think the higher salaries of the up-coming work force will off-set that to some extent, and I'm hoping it won't collapse until after I don't need it anymore!
