Ches. Beach Navy Fire Department still around?

I've read in a few papers that the firehouse at the Chesapeake Beach Naval Research Lab was being closed down for budget reasons effective last Christmas Eve, but I still see their engine running calls around Calvert and it seems like it didn't happen.

Anyone know what is going on there?

On Wednesday, January 10th they closed up shop I believe. One of the guys who works their also volunteers at a station I'm involved with. He got the call that afternoon to come up.

Half of them are going to the Naval Academy and the other half are going to Bolling Air Force Base in DC.

I was just there Wednesday (the 17th) and they are still there. This Sunday the 21st is supposed to be the shut down date.

Guess they haven't left yet. They just went by my house on a call (Feb. 1). I heard something about the union fighting the reduction as not done in the proper union contract or something.

There is some type of Alarm system being installed, when that is conplete the fire dept is history from what I have been told. True or not? , only time will tell.
