Death and legacy[edit]​

A memorial flagpole erected in Puller's honor in his hometown of West Point
Following his retirement Puller lived in Saluda, Virginia, where he was later buried after his death on October 11, 1971, at Christ Church Parish Episcopal next to his wife.[40]
