The wife saw a show on them and wants to see what the big deal is, is there anywhere fairly local that has this delicacy? Personally I couldn't care less, but she HAS to try it.

You can make your own chicken and waffles using buttermilk and then top it with this gravy. It's so :yum: you'll want to drink it out of the gravy boat!

Maple Gravy Ingredients:

• 3 tablespoons butter
• 3 tablespoons flour
• 1-3/4 cups chicken stock
• salt and pepper to taste
• 1/2 cup pure maple syrup

Directions:

Heat butter in a heavy pan over medium heat. Add flour and stir constantly 2-3 minutes until flour turns golden brown. Slowly whisk in stock. Over medium-high heat, bring to a boil, stirring constantly until gravy thickens (about 10 minutes). Season with salt and pepper to taste, then stir in syrup. Reduce heat to low until ready to serve.

I inquired about this very dish back in 2013, someone recommended to get the "real" chicken adn waffles at some joint in DC. I can't remember who it was. Personally, I want the "real deal" and I can't picture IHOP for anything other than after a long night of being out partying, other than that, I'd not go.

I think its a food truck in DC. Called appropriately enough "Chicken and Waffles". A married couple own/run it if I remember correctly.
