I wouldnt call this chit chat but I didn't know where else to post it.

I just heard on Fox 5 that last night around 6pm kids were being pulled on a sled by an ATV in Charles County near Rte 6 when the car hit the sled killing a 5y/o child. May God be with the family.

Holy sh*t....thats nuts....I feel sorry for the family.....but also ponder the though of where was the adult, an why were they by a road?

(An FOX 5 is also the people who think Hollywood is in Calvert County...or atleast the weather lady thinks so that they had on there around 4:30 this morning)

I heard it on the scanner but didn't get the details. How very sad indeed. I wish people would THINK before they do things like that.

When I was in high school, a very good friend of mine was sled riding off of Rt. 6 at the Hawthorne golf course. On the way down, he crashed, breaking his neck and fracturing his skull.

He lived, but it did hinder sled riding there for many years that followed.

I wonder if this happened at the same place. :ohwell:

Very sad. :bawl:

Stuff like that freaks me out because with children it's seems like the end of the world because they are so tiny and frail. Glad she was ok!

I understand it happened at Dubois & Route 6. I live on Dubois on the other end near Trinity Church. As I just heard about it about an hour ago; am wondering if the families involved live on the road there as you turn directly onto Dubois from Route 6? Anyone heard any more news?

Long time, no see!! :huggy:

From what I have heard, the father was pulling the three kids behind an ATV when a car left the road and struck them. One was killed, one injured, and one unhurt. It just sounds like a very unfortunate freak accident. May God be with the family.

I heard it was after 6 p.m., so am wondering why he was pulling kids behind an ATV in the dark, near the road; especially in the weather conditions last evening? Dubois Road (if that is where the accident happened) s a narrow, curvy road with no street lights and is dangerous with blind spots on a normal evening.

Also pray for God's guidance to the families involved.

The following was on the ST. Mary's Today website:

Man Pulling Kids Behind ATV Veered
Near Highway, Kid Killed When Vehicle Slid Off Rt. 6
LA PLATA --- A child was killed on Monday evening in a tragic accident and another child is in danger of dying, according to Maryland State Police spokesman Sgt. Rob Moroney.

Just after 6 pm on Monday a 43-year-old man was pulling his three step-children around on a plastic disc behind his ATV in a field near Rt. 6. The ATV ventured close to the nearby highway and a driver coming down the hill braked to avoid being close to the children, reports police.

The ATV operator turned away from the roadway, swinging the kids closer to the road at the same time the vehicle slid off the road and ran over two of the three children. A boy died and a girl is in critical condition hanging on to life. An investigation will be completed and referred to the Charles County States Attorney to determine if any charges will be placed against either the operator of the ATV or the vehicle, said Moroney.

Such a sad sad story. :frown:
My prayers and thoughts go out to the families of all involved.

To everyone on the fourm- Take a moment to tell your loved ones just how much they mean to you and give them that extra hug. Life is to short, enjoy it while you can and live it to the fullest. Spend as much time as you can with your friends and family , let the cleaning go for a day, to have fun with others and make as many memories as you can.

Time is truly a gift, and in an instance all that can change. It is just an awful tragedy that leaves a bunch of "would of" "should of" "could of" thoughts for the adults involved. :ohwell:

Hi Flo! :huggy:

Here's what we got from the cops:
http://somd.com/news/headlines/articles/3038.shtml
which pretty much jives with what the SMT reported.

Hi Vrai, :huggy:

It was on the front page also of the Maryland Independent yesterday, with pretty much the same story. All the families on Dubois Road got a flier from one of our neighbors that is taking up a collection for the boys funeral and/or dinners for the family. It is very sad, especially during the holiday season.
