Reuters reports that SMART Alabama LLC, a Hyundai Motor Co. subsidiary that makes parts for the carmaker’s Montgomery-area assembly line, used children as young as 12 at its Luverne, Ala. plant. Reuters said they became aware of the case when a Guatemalan migrant girl living in nearby Enterprise disappeared in February.

These are illegals, so that may or may not have bearing on how we feel about child labor.

First of all - what a surprise, corporate America clamoring for illegal aliens so they can exploit them.

Second, it's better for any kid to be learning a trade and earning money rather than sitting in one of the indoctrination camps we call a classroom.

These are illegals, so that may or may not have bearing on how we feel about child labor.

First of all - what a surprise, corporate America clamoring for illegal aliens so they can exploit them.

Second, it's better for any kid to be learning a trade and earning money rather than sitting in one of the indoctrination camps we call a classroom.

Still kind of for reforming public schools - for one thing, sending one kid to a trade school might save him, but leaving the rest to be brainwashed doesn't help the rest of us.

Secondly - MY son and possibly my youngest almost certainly WILL learn a trade - but my youngest is never going to learn simple math or how to comprehend what she reads without school. Doing something as simple as reading a recipe or hearing a request, she gets things mixed up because she understands neither. Hence, we get cookies dripping with butter or chores done bass ackwards because her ability to reason is weak.

Schools themselves STILL need to be better, or the nation is doomed if it isn't already.

Because the price of labor is the last remaining element of COGS that can increase profit margins. Efficiencies from technological advancement have hit a lull. With automation improvements, machines will increasingly supplant humans.

But in the meantime, this is the reason labor has been increasingly moved from the US to places like China and other countries. Humans are exploitable, and you can squeeze much more out of them in terms of profit margins.

But you are an educated person and surely are familiar with various historical "holy wars", including the Holocaust. They think the end justifies the means.
