for young, school aged children on days off. What do you working parents do? Any suggestions would be great.

I'm looking at enrolling mine into the before and after program through park and recs. Not all schools have them. However, if you pay for before and after, they will open on the days schools are off for inservice days (not holidays)

Check their site out and see if your school has this program offered. BTW, this is STM county. I do not know if the other counties have programs similar to this or not.

I'm in St Mary's (California), but I may not need before a/0 after care on a regular basis. Thank you for that info though. That would be a good option even if I didn't need it throughout the school year.

On a side note,

I was actually thinking that out of school and half day options might be good for a start up business depending upon the startup costs and regulations.

Now that I'm actually thinking about going back to work amd figuring things out, it is suddeny more complicated to have an older kiddo. Imagine that

I think that P&R may also drop in service for a daily fee. At least they used to. I no longer have the need for daycare, so I'm not sure.

What is P&R?

I do use someone occasionally for drop in care, but you can never be sure when space is available. I also would want to know that my 7 yr old isn't spending his entire day with toddlers when he has a day off.

Parks & Rec. My daughter spent some of her daycare at the Hollywood location across from PNC Bank.

If you do not have a job lined up maybe you could look into subbing or something else within the school system so you have the same hours.

I don't have a job lined up, but I also have a 3 year old who will be starting preschool 2 days a week this year. There is a position that I wanted to apply for, but I don't think the hours and finances are going to line up for that one :ohwell:

I swear by Action Taekwondo's before/afterschool program. They keep them on days off for no extra charge. :yay:

Home is a great program! I know the teachers and they are FABULOUS!

do you know what they are charging for this year?

Enrollment is their price list. Looks like $130 per month for 2-day program and $165 per month for the 3-day program. $200 per month if your child is 4 and you want the 4-day program. I checked pricing last year and they were the cheapest around.

Sorry. I should have been more specific. I was referring to the b&A TKD. I looked at their web page and the home school is listed as one of the schools they go to, but there were no prices and no one answered the phone when I called.

OH.

Just afterschool is $60 per week and I believe that before and after is $75 per week. They're in camp now and take field trips every day so it is hard to reach them mid-day.

That would be a deal breaker for me.

so it's 75 a week and that includes 5 days of tae kwon do lessons and all in service days? Plus transportation to/from school? That sounds too good to be true, so it must be too good to be true.

That includes any class that he/she wants to take as well. For instance, my boy goes to after school ($60), 2 sparring classes (with pads and without), competition team class, and a forms class. They are open every day that school is out except for major federal holidays. Trust me, I speak the truth. :lmao:
