Chillins in Africa

Anyone ever seen one of those "Save the starving children in Africa" commercials and just decided to "adopt" one of those kids?

Just wondering...they say it's "X" amount of cents per day, but really how much time and energy do you spend on this?

Thoughts?

I saw one of those commercials not that long ago. Starving little girl had gold earrings in her ears.

Yes. If you're feeling generous, we have starving children right here in the good ol' US of A.
the question was directed more towards the programs these different organizations have setup...and how people like them, etc...

i understand the other options. Just focused right now on the africa children.

I have no personal experience, but I don't trust them. Typically these organizations use the bulk of the donation to support the organization. Some time back somebody posted a link to a site that shows how much of your donation goes to the charity and how much goes into the organization to keep it running. For the most part, I think charity organizations are a scam.

I know a girl that did just that, she seemed to just send her money and she got like a pic of said kid, and really just sent however much she was supposed to and that was that, don't think she ever really got any "updates" like to make sure her money was really going to this child in the pic, but she seemed overall pleased with the organization.

I have seen those commercials several times, but I've never adopted one of the children. I just don't believe that the money I send will actually go to those children.
