Chinese anti-satellite test sparks concern

WASHINGTON - The United States, Australia and Canada have voiced concerns to China over the first known satellite-killing test in space in more than 20 years, the White House said Thursday.

“The U.S. believes China’s development and testing of such weapons is inconsistent with the spirit of cooperation that both countries aspire to in the civil space area,” National Security Council spokesman Gordon Johndroe said. “We and other countries have expressed our concern regarding this action to the Chinese.”

Using a ground-based medium-range ballistic missile, the test knocked out an aging Chinese weather satellite about 537 miles (860 kilometers) above the earth on Jan. 11 through “kinetic impact,” or by slamming into it, Johndroe said.

Canada and Australia had joined in voicing concern, he said. Britain, South Korea and Japan were expected to follow suit, an administration official told Reuters.

The last U.S. anti-satellite test took place on Sept. 13, 1985. Washington then halted such Cold War-era testing, concerned that debris could harm civilian and military satellite operations on which the West increasingly relies for everything from pinpoint navigation to Internet access to automated teller machines.

I thought this was about China developing the means to shoot down our sattelites. Now that is scary. Oh yeah, they are soooooo friendly with us, they are just waiting and biding their time, we will be be squaring off against them someday, you wait.

It's called North Korea... China supports them far more than they support us and they've made it clear on the international stage.

Strung Out
Summary...

...China now has demonstrated an ability to attack satellites in orbit. Only we and the Sov's could do this. A third player makes any game exponentially more complex.

This means they can;

1. Kill our intelligence (spy) sats.

2. They can kill communications sats.

3. They can even mess up the Superbowl being broadcast to the world.

The first two can be dealt with by improving our anti missile capabilities and leverage this ability to protecting our sats. The last one could mean WWIII.

without our spy sattelites, they can move their 100 million man army without us noticing. This would be a bad thing.

An attack on our, or our allies, satellites would be act war the same as an attack on one of our warships. The required nuclear response would help the Chinese solve their population problem so they wouldn't have to kill all the baby girls.

now lets be realistic.
first, the chinese would never do anything while republicans had any say in our country.
they will however wait until the dems are in charge completely, then they strike.
first thing the dems will do is send the some flowers and candies, then ask if they would mind sitting down at the big pretty table so they could talk this out.

meanwhile, the chinese are loading up for round two.

now if the republicans are in office, the first thing that happens is a remake of the movie Hiroshima.
