Chrissy Wallace signed a contract with Germain Racing on Wednesday to run for rookie honors in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2009. She will run an additional six races this season, starting with the Milwaukee Mile on June 20.

"I'm extremely excited," Wallace said. "This is a big deal for us. When I saw my name on that contract, I almost couldn't believe it. But I'm thrilled about this opportunity."

Wallace, 19, made her debut in the No. 03 Geico Tundra at Martinsville Speedway on March 29. Although she qualified 35th, Wallace raced to an 18th-place finish.

Wallace said after her run the Germains realized, "Hey, she can actually drive. We need to do something with her. If we don't get on the bandwagon, someone else is going to sign her."

It was a pro-active move for Germain Racing, which is likely to pay large dividends for both the team and Toyota.

Chrissy's a damn talented driver. Germain's a good team to be with, and it never hurts to have Tony Stewart on your side. If Tony says she's a good driver, no doubt about it she can drive. :yay:

GO CHRISSY! :starcat:

Look at these well thought out comments. Danica wins, and now everyone's :bawl:

I especially liked this one:
Unfortunately, this is fairly typical of female sportswriters who are given a national forum. Rather than wonder why members of "minority" groups aren't striving to rise to the top of some of these sports, the question they ask is why the SPORTS aren't doing more to reach out. Let's expand on this. Why hasn't Major League Baseball done a better job of "reaching out" to me and getting me a starting gig on a big-league club? Why isn't the NBA "reaching out" to little people? Why isn't the NFL "reaching out" to promote the hiring of more Chinese head coaches? Journalists with sports backgrounds believe things are simple and are settled on the field. Journalists without strong competitive sports backgrounds are used to success being determined by the subjective standards of judges or educators. They do not understand the survival of the fittest mentality, or that some people are where they are because of their own work. To them, there must have been some sort of leg-up program that helped every successful person. Danica Patrick won a mileage race against a weakened field of 18 (Every race has had 18 car fieldss before the IRL/Champcar unification - Andy), but she won it on the track. If she hadn't, the would have likely disappeared in the next few seasons. She still may. But rather than cry about there being not enough female and black drivers in the various NASCAR series, find out how many are even trying to compete (I have, and they're aplenty - Andy). Instead of implying that the racing teams, sponsors and the "league" are conspiring to keep people down, ask Oprah and Robert Johnson why they're not investing their OWN money in "their people," just to show us all how those drivers are just as good as the Jimmie Johnsons of the world. Unfortunately, Lee Spencer is apparently yet another female "journalist" who believes that sports is her personal platform from which she is entitled to spout a personal social agenda that - to be honest - no one cares to listen to. I'd rather just read about the event.

It's amazing how grown men are :bawl: and :tantrum like a :baby: because Danica won the race. How many races did she lose to fuel mileage strategy?

xtremesportsfan, I know that you are worked up and all but to say that women can perform just as well as men is one broad brush stroke. In some things, yes, in others, no-way... They MIGHT be able to drive a car as good but please don't try to imply that top women athletes have the physical ability to match top male athletes in, football, basketball, golf, track, etc.. They don't.. I really didn't think this needed to be pointed out but men and women were created with a few different types of skill sets.. And just FYI, they are physically different, women just don't have the same physical make up of a dude.
:dork:

I had a feeling someone would come up with some men drivers who hadn't won in 50 races. But most of those guys have won races before, no?

Yep, David Ragan has 4,000 victories credited to his record. :sarcasm:

It just annoys me a bit to hear how we HAVE TO HAVE women and we HAVE TO HAVE minorities and that they should get special treatment to make them successful at anything.

Yep, women have gotten preferential treatment in auto racing. :yay:

Oh yeah ...... :sarcasm:

Good luck telling that to Danica Patrick, Shirley Muldowney, Bunny Burkett, Ashley Force, Melanie Troxel.
