Christmas Breakfast

Not a Lurker anymore!
I've decided (against my better judgement) to have my family over for Christmas breakfast again this year.

Last year, I was stuck in the kitchen while everyone else was downstairs enjoying eachothers company. :(

Got any recipes or ideas to make this year more enjoyable? I know they are expecting hot food. Not donuts and danishes. Please give me some ideas, so that the breakfast will be hot and tasty, but wont keep me in there cooking all morning! TIA :)

I have garlic breath.
I make a breakfast casserole every year for Christmas morning. It is all prepared the night before so you just have to pop it into the oven for about an hour in the morning. It is really easy and has eggs, sausage, cheese, cubed bread and any veggies you'd like to add in it. I'll give you the recipe if you'd like :)

Bacon or Sausage can be cooked ahead of time.

Have lots of fresh fruit, kabobs would be fun and you could make those ahead as well.

Maybe a breakfast casserole that you could make ahead and pop in the oven the next morning.

I have even seen individual omelets made in muffin pans that you could do ahead.

Just a couple of ideas, I know how it feels to be stuck in the kitchen while everyone else is having a good time. :(

I have garlic breath.
1 pkg. pork breakfast sausage
10 eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups milk
2 teaspoons dry mustard
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups cubed bread
2 cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Any veggies you'd like to add like onion, peppers, mushrooms, etc., chopped

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
Cook sausage in a skillet. In a large bowl, mix together eggs, milk, mustard and salt. Layer half of the bread cubes evenly in a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Sprinkle with half the pepper, half the cheese, half the sausage, and half of any veggies you may be using. Repeat with another layer with the remaining half of ingredients. Pour egg mixture evenly over casserole. Bake uncovered for 55-60 minutes or until eggs are set. If the top gets brown too quickly, tent with aluminum foil.

I also have an "over night" french toast recipe floating around somewhere if you'd like a sweeter option for a hot breakfast that's just as easy. Enjoy! :)

Well, every morning before my hubby and son go off to work, I make them breakfast. Sometimes it is scrambled eggs and bacon and toast, sometimes it's waffles, sausage, etc., and sometimes it is pancakes. It just depends on my mood. If it's waffles, I don't include toast. If it's waffles, I try to whip up some strawberries and cream to put on top. Today I made home-made cinnamon rolls that I will serve tomorrow, along with some apple betty. I think it is wonderful to get them off to work with a hearty breakfast.

I've made a similar recipe with hash browns. I believe you can find it printed on the back of those frozen hash brown packages. Cover the top with crushed corn flakes and butter. MMMmmmmmm. Making me hungry.
