Chuck County cop executes dog

OK, I freely admit that my headline is as extreme as that in the Saint Marys Today newspaper.

http://www.stmarystoday.com/News/Family_dog_dead.html

I'm not saying the owner family was totally in the right... A family member on the lam. A Shep chained outside.

But the cop had waaaay more options available to him;
* Walk outside of the radius of the chain (DUH!)
* Pepper spray
* Call in animal control and then prosecute the warrant

If any of us throw up a ghost ring on a police dog and [bang-bang-bang] hit it with slugs and flechettes, guess what? We would be arrested for killing an officer of the law. But Johnny Law can come into our back yard and kill our animals?

I am sad for this animal. Not for his owners, and not at all for his killer. Just for the poor dog who died doing what he and his ancestors were bred to do.

Just another fine example of So Md finest. Guilty till proven innocent, a 10-10 at the local establishment, with easy entrapment pickens of 10-55's at closing, and their happy for the weekend. There are a few good one's out there, but few. We watch the bounty hunter "Dog" on tv and it's great until it happens to you. My heart goes out to the dog, doing what he was suppose to be doing, and of course to his owners. The shoot first ask questions later mentality has long been growing here in the quite south, and is getting worse. The #1 industry besides the base, is the courts, with their hundreds of dui/dwi's, petty larceny,bad checks, and a major drug bust every now and then producing a whoping 54 ounces of pot like I saw the other day, after a three month investigation. Street value three hundred dollars. This needs to be dealt with, but priorities must be set. People are being robbed in their homes, and they are there, when it happens, you need a cop and their all busy pulling suspected 10-55's over for a tag light out. My scanner makes me sick sometimes. The day of Barney Fife meets Dirty Harry is over, and shall be dealt with, if news of this has to go to the top. Hello Wash Post, Baltimore Sun......Had to vent on this one! Oh yeah, time to bring the house protection gun back out of mothballs....

And your source?

Source for what? The fact that a victim doesn't have to be nearly mauled by a rabid animal to catch rabies? The fact that the woman herself stated the dog attacked the deputy from behind? The fact that rabid animals are quite common in Southern Maryland? The statement that I don't read krama? My belief the story is much more complex than the one-sided crucifixion in the St Mary's Today? What source are you asking for?
