Church Dinners-Fall Festivals

I went to a church dinner in Chaptico this afternoon and was not happy with the food. The oysters were WONDERFUL but the ham was very dry and the vegetables were boiled to mush. The women working there were quite gruff and grumpy. The men very friendly.
I like to support the local churches but at $40.00 for me and my husband I was not happy. I know this is the season for all the church dinner so where are the really good ones?

I'm not sure when the one is at the church at St. Mary's city but I've attended it several times and it's some real good cooking!

I went to the same dinner with my wife. Our experience was just the opposite. Everyone was friendly, and the food was great. Both the fresh ham and the country ham. Since the poster only mentioned "the ham" I wonder if she is aware of the types of ham served at So. Md. dinners - fresh ham, country ham and stuffed ham.

St. George's Catholic Church in Valley Lee did a good job with their crabcake dinner in August (it was our first time attending), and they have a fried oyster/stuffed ham dinner next Sunday. We're going to go ahead and try it.

Oct. 18th, Christ Church Wayside, MD Not sure of menu but I believe it will be country ham & either crab cakes or fried oysters or fried chicken. May also have baked ham.

Oct. 26, (Sunday) Sacred Heart, Bushwood MD. Menu - stuffed ham and turkey and possibly fried oysters.

Both very good.
