Been riding the dresser a lot lately. As I was getting ready to run an errand to L'town this morning, another guy in the office had just returned and suggested strongly that I forgo the scooter; said the cicadas were crazy thick on upper 249 and along rt 5.

I took the Bronco. A good call...must have taken major wacks to the front of the vehicle by a dozen of those flying monsters.

Passed a guy headed south on 249 on his open Harley...he was tucked in as close behind a minivan as he could possibly get, with his head lowered. :killingme

Been through 2 gallons of windshield washer fluid in the last week. They make a giant white splat at 60 MPH. I mean 50 MPH. Nasty.

See..that's what I'm worried about. I ride with a short helmet and goggles...so a cicada hit to the face could, potentially, really do some damage.

I was at a yard Sale on my way home from work this afternoon, and had a Cicada land, on my nose. He had a death grip too. If this happens to you, pull slowly, because I think they have barbs on their legs. At least it felt like it.

Haven't hit one yet.

I have a modular helmet with an integral sun visor that is goggle shaped. In weather like this, I leave the full visor up and drop the shaded one, maximum airflow that way. Knew I was tempting fate, since I have hit about 3 or more this week, all chest or leg shots. One hit the visor rigth where it crosses my nose, think he lost about %70 of his energy there, thank god. My nose was sore for an hour or so:) Right after that, dropped the full visor, and good thing, because the next one hit right over my lips.......woulda been ugly.
