I have a line of gunk on my car. It looks almost like residue from an adhesive. Someone told me to use lighter fluid to get it off. Any off the shelf recommendations?

goo gone or finger nail polish remover. Test first. I've used goo gone on paint with no problems in the past.

I've also been told windex will remove the sticky from those stickers they put on new cars with where you purchased it from for free advertising. I take mine off immediately when I get home.

Do NOT use fingernail polish remover (unless you want to remove the paint).

My daughter stepped in wet paint and got it on my brand new truck on the inside of the door jam. I tried it, but it didn't remove the bright yellow curb paint, or the paint on the truck, but I only tried a dime size area and didn't rub hard. I didn't want to chance it.

I'm speaking from experience. Years ago (1979 to be exact) I wanted to remove the dealers stick on decal he stuck right on the trunk. I used fingernail polish remover. Had to have the trunk repainted....

That sucks.

I used the goo gone for that

BTW, goo gone does not remove dry yellow curb paint from your door jams. :ohwell: Nor has anything else I've tried.

Just a sidebar... remove the dealer sticker with a hairdryer. OR as I do...tell them to get the salesman at the dealership to take their sh*t OFF my car

These things work wonders.

After removing the side moldings, and emblems from the Avalanche, I found out a few things. Goo Gone sucks, it helped to break down the 3M tape, but it did nothing to remove the adhesive. Goof Off worked 100X better. However it can be a bit tough on different finishes. It did not harm the trucks paint. I have some Turtle Wax stuff that I have not tried yet, the reviews look promising though.
